I'm happy as hell, but really suprised that someone is going to spend the money to go back out there. I'm sure the food will be average, but it will be nice having a place out there again.
We were out in the boat yesterday and rode by there and I was thinking back to how cool it used to be out there on Sunday evenings.

Sundays out on the Lake used to be awesome. Would be nice for that entire area to finally come back.

It's going to be high above the water. I think they said the 1st floor would be 17 feet above the water. And the locations where the other restaurants were apparently can never be used again because they're in the Corps of Engineers right of way. Maybe they could build more to the north of the Fitzgerald's location, though.

The story confused me a little bit. I thought that the Fitzgerald's site and all of the restaurant row area was in Orleans Parish? I thought that the canal was the parish line. If so, why was the article full of Jeff parish councilperson's comment and not one word from an Orleans pol?

Out there it's not technically the canal. Something screwy about how they divided it up.

I'm glad they are trying for the Jefferson Parish location. It would probably take an extra year to get this done on the Orleans side.

The parish line is in the parking lot. There are even signs demarcating the border. Check them out this afternoon.

I used to love it out there. I spent many a Saturday and Sunday afternoon saving sinners.

IIRC the restaurants were actually in Jefferson Parish but the parking lot was in Orleans Parish. The parking lot fell into disrepair because Orleans did not want to have to pay to maintain the parking lot because they did not get any revenues from the restaurants.

Orleans Parish finally started charging to park there, the revenues used for upkeep of the parking lot. This was the start of the decline of the area since the patrons did not want to pay to park, Katrina was the final blow.

I wonder how this situation will play out for the new place.

That's what I was wondering. The parking area is a huge shithole and I thought I remember a bunch of randam stuff being "dumped" out there.

It isn't like N.O. is going to make it easy on anyone and it seems like it will cost a fortune to do the site prep, etc.

Hopefully it's better than Brisbi's and Blue Crab.

I actually had an idea for a food truck lot/small concert venue in that parking lot. Thought it would be perfect for the location.

But I am not about putting in any effort.
