New Orleans Chef's menu/table suggestions
Posted by Glock17 on 4/30/17 at 8:34 pm00
For my wife's birthday she wants to go do a chef's table or chef's tasting menu in New Orleans. My initial thought was Commanders but I didn't know if there was better options. Anyone have any suggestions?
No but you have to pay for the extra. I've done Commanders several times both with and without wine. You get tons of food, the rear courtyard bar to yourself, you can rest and sit at it if you like between courses and since you are in the kitchen they allow you to take your jacket off.
It is a booth but it is comfortable and well worth it. I would pay the extra two

The Commanders kitchen table is four people only. If you are thinking of doing it for a weekend, it is probably a 6 month out reservation

Maybe I'll go with y'all. I won't talk a lot, and I promise not to ask if you're gonna eat that whenever a new plate comes out.
Emeril's can accommodate a smaller crowd in the back. Also, Square Root is a pretty awesome experience but you are at a kinda bar on stools around the kitchen area but I highly recommend it. 18-24 courses.

Commander's was great and worth the money IMO. I'd find another couple and do it at sometime.
How soon is your wife's birthday? I remember having to schedule a few months out just to get a Tuesday.

There is no better option than the Chef's Table at Commander's. I have eaten at it twice. But you must have four people (or pay for four) and reserve months in advance. A good alternative is to book a table in one of Commander's beautiful dining rooms and ask for the Chef's Playground Menu. This printed menu on a given night is the same menu they have for the Chef's Table. The Chef's Table has more off menu bells and whistles, but the meal and dining experience will be spectacular.

Someone needs to probably take a moment to explain how these different deals work.
I have heard that you can sit at the kitchen bar at Emerils and have a great time

I'll have to look into that as well.

Emerils is a little more rustic than CP. It's a table in the back kitchen area and basically a feed me. This is not the bar area facing the kitchen, which has changed btw from where it was originally, The originally space is where I proposed to my wife a long time ago.

How much does that cost?
I've been to Commander's twice for lunch. It's not all that expensive for a high end restaurant.

I'm not even sure that they do this all of the time.

Probably the best idea.

When I did commanders, we spent 600$ for the two of us.
Emerils was about 500$.
That was with wine pairings.
