I know a lot of people will make a big deal about chains but more movement in regards to development between LSU and downtown is a good thing.

But we need more bars and venues not fast food

True. But we really need first and foremost the dilapidated houses to be knocked down, the parish to form a cohesive plan that we work towards that involves cleaning it up and moving the trash out, and having more apartment style living.

I would love for them to have a master plan that basically tried to recreate a smaller version of uptown nola. Wishful thinking I know, but there is a lot of promise there.

Really wish LSU would just start moving that way instead of expropriating land the other direction. Expropriate the shittyness that's in that area, and work with private business/city officials to rejuvenate the area.

The real problem is Central and Zachary, and to a less extent, Ascension and Livingston. They are too small town to understand how a thriving area like that could actually benefit the entire community because less 25-35 year old people won't flee this place. So anything involving spending money in downtown BR is met with, "this doesn't help us." I can't stand that mentality because it's just wrong in so many ways.

Chipotle opens 6/25 I believe

I saw them both and they looked ready to open. This is a good thing for the northgate area! Even if I'm not a 5 guys guy.

I'm a big Chipotle guy. Right now, I only go to LSU for business (and a ballgame or two), but I would go out of my way for Chipotle.

As far as the burrito places go, their pork and their rice blow away the competition. So does their guac. Only thing I don't like are the over-salted chips.

You are too much of an idealist. Move to Nola where there are things like that happening

The prob with expanding lsu northward is the thousands of familes they would have to pay to ask to leave and it would only take a few familes to say no to screw it up
Buying everything up to the Chinese food place might work

My understanding is that Old South BR has some history to it in the African-American community that run deep. Am I right? Isn't McKinley the oldest A-A high school and the area one of the older black neighborhoods?

Given that, an attempt at gentrification would meet with more resistance than knocking down a housing project that was built in the 60s.

Does that make sense?

And I repeat, Chipotle rocks, chain or not.

I would love to be in NOLA from 25-35 but would not like it after 35. Frankly because if you can't live uptown, why would I want to live there? And when I'm 40 and have a family, I'll be doing alright but unlikely well enough to own a nice house uptown and send my kids to private school. Living in Lakeview just isn't appealing to me at all. Old Metairie, maybe. But honestly, as much as i dislike things about BR, I still like it.

The best they can do it increase police in the area and actually arrest panhandlers. Also instead of buying the area give money for beautification of north gate
