Listening to a podcast called state of craft beer. Mentions the head of LED meeting with Brooklyn Brewing to start a brewery in Louisiana. Anyone heard anything about this? LED just appointed a new secretary of LED, so if this is true, it would probably be the former secretary.

Anyone (bmoney) know of any new breweries looking to start up here in Louisiana in the next year or 2?

Also, i was told of a brewery starting up in Lake Charles, Crying Eagle Brewing. They have a facebook page.

This doesn't include the guys currently setup as breweries/brewpubs.

Crying Eagle has supposedly found a location here in LC on Ryan Street. They were looking on the lake but couldn't work out a deal, which is really disappointing because that would have been awesome.

Rikenjaks, which was a brewpub here in LC in the late 90s-early 00s is looking to reopen as well. They were way ahead of their time, especially for LC. I vaguely remember drinking there a few times but that was back when I thought SN Pale Ale was exotic so I don't think I have a valid opinion.

I can't wait for one of them to open so I can be a huge homer. Heady will be swill compared to Crying Eagle Amber or whatever they end up making.

any info on these guys?

surely something new is in the works for BR, right? surely Tin Roof doesn't have such a stronghold on the market that no one else is willing to challenge them?

Conklin is ready to begin construction of his brewery on the grounds of Chappapeela Farms in Husser, Louisiana. It will be called Chappapeela Farmhouse Brewery and will produce all 750 ml bottle conditioned saisons and farmhouse ales.

"I'll also be doing some barrel aging and working with [brettanomyces]" Conklin says. Brettanomyces is a yeast strain that adds distinctive flavor to beer.

awesome

I actually have a wedding to go to in Husser next May...

Add Husser to the long list of cities in Louisiana that have as many or more breweries than the capital city. SMDH

Ohhhh, that's his place! Cool. I always wind up drinking way too much and staying out way too late when I run into that cat. Interesting dude.

If all of these new breweries materialize, this will be awesome. I was reading that in Europe, back in the Pre-WW1/WW2 era nearly every small town had their own brewery. Obviously this isn't the same, but it makes for more interesting times in the local beer scene.

How many Northshore breweries will there be now? Gnarly Barley, Chafunkta, Old Rail, Abita, and now Chappapeela?

This is like the third or fourth time ive had this conversation this week. frick baton rouge. I need to win the lottery. Its amazing to me that no one has even tried to open another brewery here, tin roof is shite and acting like they are high on the hog because they lack any competition.
