Yeah, I am embarrassed to say I played a part in that. This clown comes on here in every thread that a ceramic is mentioned. I am done now, but I am pretty sure he has thoroughly convinced everyone that he is a jackass.

Again, take a look at what I'm using, then realise why you sound like a dumbass for bringing that up like it's some sort of victory for you.

He also isn't looking for a smoker/grill. Keep moving the goalposts though.

I've eaten at Ponderosa BBQ, Big Moe's place, and the ability to tell that it was cooked no on a BGE was so easy to spot, compared to pit BBQ places like Franklin's. Big moe's was dry, had little smoke ring, and felt like it was just lunch meat marinated in liquid smoke.

Don't waste your time, money, or meat on a BGE

That $500 ceramic would be perfect. People that don't use them don't realize how complete these things are.

Low and slow with wood or not for 12 hours to 600 degrees for steak.

Ceramic is a very good smoker and a very good grill all in one.

Calling it very good is the same as calling it shitty. It's an average smoker, that's the truth. There isn't anything wrong with being average. It still produces decent bbq with a low skill level cook, which is a great thing.

This is dumb too, it's got great value to the people that get them. It's a better grill and does fine smoking.

I would go with a Weber Kettle and WSM combo. You can get both for under $600. Best of both worlds. An awesome versatile grill and great smoker.

I will agree that the BGE or any ceramic aren't great smokers. Can they do it, yes, but are they ideal, no. I feel that fuel efficiency is actually a detriment when smoking. I usually don't like food smoked on a ceramic cause the fire is barely smoldering since the cooker is so efficient. This creates bad smoke imo.

Lazy smoking is a thing, nothing wrong with that. That's why they make pellets, gas, and electric. I'd rather have a good pellet over the good ceramics if lazy smoking was the goal. Grilling is their downfall though.

The offset/grill combo is a relatively new concept but is well recieved.

If you want a great smoker grill combo for $400 get the oklahoma joes combo and mod it how you want like any other offset. Downside is space you get as opposed to a full size offset. Plus a Propane grill for convenience.

If you want a really good charcoal grill that is a mediocre smoker with no real room for modifications, spend the extra $400 on a BGE.

Just depends on OP's prioroties. I'd rather a good quality smoker.

I agree with this. I've never prided myself in being the best BGE user but I've had one for 7 or 8 years and still use it regularly. I've not ever been able to get a good smoke flavor on it, and I've tried many different methods (not saying it's not possible, just that I don't have the skills/knowledge to accomplish it). I can cook low and slow all day long and get great juicy/tender meat but mine always seems to be missing that smokiness that I love from good BBQ.

This was what finally sold me on the BGE. I got tired of throwing away grills every few years.

That's why I have a BGE and a Pellet smoker. Love em both for different reasons.
