My review of Boucherie (long lol)....

I figured I may as well post a review since everyone was so helpful with the recommendations here.
First off, love the atmosphere. I wasn't expecting it to be so small and intimate, but I really enjoyed it. It would have been nice to be on the patio last night, but we were a 4 top. Next time I'll definitely be out there though.
For drinks, I had a sazerac, and my wife had a Pimm's cup. Both were very good, although they muddle cucumber for the Pimm's cup. I wasn't a fan of that, but my wife loved it.
After we placed our order, the chef sent out house made bread sticks with basil and tomato oil. It wasn't my favorite texture for a breadstick, a little firm. But the flavors worked well, and it was a nice little surprise to start the meal off.
For the small plates, I had the steamed mussels with collard greens & crispy grit crackers. I just recently started eating mussels, and these were some of my favorite. The broth was delicious, citrus garlic. The mussels themselves were cooked well. I liked how thin and crispy the grit cakes were. The greens were soaked in the broth, so mostly tasted like that (which was not a problem).
My wife had the blackened shrimp & grit cake with warm house cured bacon vinaigrette. We both agreed this was the better of the two. The shrimp were a good size and seasoned very well. The grit cake was crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. They used blackening seasoning for that as well. I can't say that I remember the vinaigrette, but I'm sure it was good because we ate this dish quickly. Definitely recommend that one.
The other couple got the arugula salad and one of the specials for the night, sockeye salmon crudo. The crudo was served with some type of sauerkraut and shaved apples. They raved about this dish. They said the salad was just OK, but they wished they'd have eaten it before the crudo.
Moving on to the entrees. I was unable to be swayed away from the brisket. I'm glad I wasn't, because it was phenomenal. Tender and juicy, just enough sauce. Just perfect. The garlic parmesan fries that come with it were a great compliment IMO.
My wife got the applewood smoked scallops with fried green tomato, toasted squash gribiche & smoked scallop white bean sausage. the applewood scallop was delicious, cooked well without an overpowering smoked flavor. I don't like tomatoes, so can't comment on those. The gribiche looked a lot like mush to me, tasted OK though. The sausage was interesting. I didn't not like it, but I wouldn't seek it out again.
Other couple had the duck and the amberjack. The duck was the other option I was considering, and based off what I saw, I will definitely be getting it next time. Amberjack looked very good as well, and apparently the granola was good in it. They both loved their entrees.
For dessert, we had the KK bread pudding, Thai chili chocolate chess pie, and the carrot cake. The bread pudding was the table favorite, absolutely delicious. The chess pie was very interesting. You would never know about the spice in it until after you swallow. Had a significant kick to it, that I found a bit overwhelming for dessert. The crust was very good though. The carrot cake I'm told was very good, but I ran out of room
Total damage for this meal was $178 before tip. The portion sizes were great, enough to fill you up but not too much to make you feel bloated. Service was very good as well. I thought the price was very reasonable for what we got, and I will definitely go back.

I plan on going back soon myself; no entrees above $18. . And I agree that the Thai Chili Chocolate Chess pie definitely has the perfect amount of heat to it and you only notice it in the aftertaste.

My favorite app there.

Not sure if you've been to or seen Cafe Granada(right around the corner), but it's not going to have the same feel. One of my favorite aspects of Boucherie is the atmosphere. This move is a big gamble. IMO.

I got this when I went as well. Delicious, but the photos make it look extremely unappealing
So I don't post them much.

I don't think the move will hurt them at all.

They're moving? When is this happening?

This might be the last weekend in that spot.
Nevermind, few more weekends.

Boucherie will be closed from Aug. 16 to Sept. 9. Rather than take another research trip, Denio and Zimet will use that time to ready Boucherie's new space and refine the wing shop's menu.

I wouldnt worry too much about them gambling on the bigger spot. That restaurant has always been an incubator of sorts. I liked the downtown version of Iris better and I am sure I'll like being able to go to a larger Boucherie (where one could maybe get a table easier) as well.

I will say, our reservation was for 630. Got there and there were only two tables occupied. I thought to myself guess I didn't need the reservation. 30 minutes later there were no tables open.

When I went it was a party of 3 at 6:45 on a Saturday night. There were 2 tables open. About 20 minutes later people were waiting 30 minutes for a table.

Thought about taking pics, then remembered the last time I did that I got blasted on here for not enjoying the company I was with and told my dad must be proud of me

Nice writeup. I like the ordering .. y'all hit some damn good dishes. Did you drink any wine (or more cocktails) with the food?
This doesn't sound very appealing to me personally.

Thought about it, my friend had an early flight and limited himself. My wife and I had a buzz already from a bottle of champagne to celebrate closing on our house that afternoon. So everyone only got one drink.

Definitely the weakest entree of the four. Maybe the weakest of the entire meal. It's the only thing I wouldn't order again. Not so much that it was bad per se, but everything else was just so much better.

10-4. Congrats on closing

Makes sense. I've felt this about scallops every single time I've tasted them at a restaurant. There's usually just better dishes for a better value on the menu.

Yea, My dad makes some at home that are better than any I've had in any restaurant. Kind of pointless to get them as a stand alone entree.

Jones got something similar when we went, and it just looked okay.
In the photo, they look burnt, and they were not nearly that black in person.
Still.. scallops are so.. meh. For me personally. I don't dislike them. I just find them to be flavorless and easily overpowered by other stuff.

I definitely agree with most of you that scallops are something you can just cook at home rather than order at a restaurant and they come out better at home/to your liking. FWIW mussels are a lot better/a safer option to order at restaurants than scallops. Plus scallops are either a love it or hate it sort of shellfish/mollusk.
