I love the idea of picking out the stuff you want on your plate and turning it over to the guy to prepare it in front of you. Where's the best place for Mongolian bbq in this area? I know a few of the Chinese places do it. But, sometimes the proteins in their trays look sort of suspect.

Also, I remember an Italian place in the Superdome where you could go down the line and pick out the ingredients you wanted and they would cook it for you. Do those exist in the BR area?

I don't know of a single place around BR featuring Mongolian BBQ.

am i using the wrong term? The chinese place on Florida by Bonne Carre has an area where you put the protien, veggies, noodles and such on a plate, hand it to the guy and he cooks it on this big round grill. What's that called?

There used to be one on Jefferson/Tiger Bend, but I'm not sure it exists anymore. I loved Mongolian BBQ back in the day.

That Genghis Khan chain is pretty solid and the places are packed in every city I visit. Not sure why Baton Rouge doesn't have one.

Damn. Is it really that uncommon down here? It was pretty popular in my area up north growing up. I loved being able to pick what I wanted, sauces, etc., & have them cook it.

Kaminari has one on their buffet, but for the same money, I'd go to Nagoya.

That gigantic arse buffet on Florida doesn't have Mongolian BBQ - think the name is Shanghai? It's the one with the big bright sign. I haven't been there in years, but I thought you could pick whatever raw meats and veggies you wanted them to cook.

it definitely does. But, the chicken and sometimes the shrimp looks really questionable.

I ate at Shanghai once or twice and thought it wasn't that great.
As I've gotten older, the idea of eating at a buffet is less and less appealing. (Getting food poisoning from Nagoya, being diagnosed with Type II diabetes and marrying to a woman who doesn't want to watch me stuff myself at a trough contributed to this.) I go to Thai Pepper about once every six months and once a year for some unknown reason I'll decide I hate myself and go to the Mr. Gatti's buffet.

Alexandria/pineville has 2. Surely BR has one. I always heard it referred to as mongolion grill.

The best one used to be off Sherwood Forest but it closed awhile back.
