Maurepas Foods, an always Southern restaurant with a global perspective in the Bywater, will close permanently on Monday, Oct. 5.

I was never a regular, but I enjoyed my few experiences. I hope someone fills the spot but the restaurant business aint easy these days.

And they open a place there that gives a shite. I like the location, I just wish it hadn't gone to crap.

I only went when it was new and thought it was great. I take it things must have declined after other competition opened in the neighborhood.

Funny... I just shared the news about Maurepas with a friend and instantly said the same thing.

I'm not so sure Ursa is knocking them dead either.

Whoa. That is sad to hear. It used to be PACKED, past 2 times I went it was completely dead.

It's really weird. Maurepas and Booty's were really good in the beginning and then declined on almost the same track.

Live close to it and the decline has been steady over the past 6 months. Quality of the food is the main reason - last couple of times I went, the food was served lukewarm, at best, and it was dry. Too many other options in N.O. Booty's is def next.

Although for a group most closely aligned with the adjective "irony", it is ironic that the 2 "hipster" restaurants in the Bywater are about to go to the restaurant graveyard. Still, there are many good/great restaurants in this area: Marizas, Oxyalis, Elizabeths, Pizza Delicious, Reds Chinese, Bachanal, and Kabob to name a few.

Bootys never did anything for me. That Ursa Major joint is even more perplexing of an establishment.

Maurepas was really good for a while. They definitely lost something over the past year or two. I think the hipster chic restaurant scene has sort of jumped the shark.

Heard from a local restaurant sceener that Ursa Major is hurting badly already.

Makes sense since I never see anyone in there. That whole pay for a reservation thing was an immediate red flag.

If the food at Ursa is anything like what they have been serving lately at Booty's, then they have that issue to contend with, too.

Is it true that they prepare their menu based upon the stars at any given time?

That sucks. I always enjoyed their goat tacos and cocktails. Is Oxalis still doing well?

One restaurant isn't indicative of a trend, but there has been a restaurant bubble growing for a few years now. Simply not enough staff, costumers, or product to go around.
