Maui hotspots
Posted by Tigerdogg on 6/8/10 at 10:51 am00
Going to Maui next week and am looking for some good eats, will be in the Lahaina area, any ideas are appreciated
For high scale dinning there is Pacific'O located on the far end of Lahaina. It is a great restaurant, the chef owner has his own garden in upcountry where he gets all fresh vegetables. It is pricey but very good. Reservations are needed.
Pacific'O's sister restaurant is I'O. It is a little cheaper but still great food.
Ma'la is great food. The dinning on the patio during sunset is absolutely fantastic.
For a good happy hour try Moose McGillicuddy’s. Food is just your average bar food but they have a very good happy hour.
For a cheaper dinner try Aloha Mixed plate. Pretty traditional dishes and not too expensive.
If you want sushi there is a great sushi restaraunt up the highway in Kapalua called Sansei sushi. The freshest sushi I have ever had.
Also, you CAN NOT miss the Maui brewing company brew pub that is just a few miles from Lahaina. The beer is awesome and the food is pretty good too (try the fish and chips). And you have to get a coconut porter (great beer).
For the best (also most expensive) luau experience (if you have to have one of those) try the place right next to Pacific'O (Feast at LeLe - thanks to poster below for remembering name). I heard it is the best but forget about the name.
Then just walk down main street in Lahaina and window shop and stop in to any of the various restaurants that you see something that looks good on the menu.

It's on the North Shore, so it is away from Lahaina, but Mama's Fish House was great. Definitely worth the drive. The menu changes daily depending upon what is coming into the docks that day.
We also did the road to Hana and stopped at a few roadside stands for banana bread and marinated tuna grilled over an open pit. All was very good.
We stayed near Lahaina and Pacific'O is very good. We also did the Feast at Le Le as opposed to the old Lahaina Luau (food is supposedly the best at Feast at Le Le and it was great).

Lahaina Pizza company (used to be BJ's Pizza) on Front street is pretty legit. Chicago style deep dish. Make sure you get some banana bread and coconut candy if you do the road to hana. Other than that, i wouldn't rave about any of the food in maui. Granted, i've only been twice so I haven't tried everything. Sensai is highly overrated.
Pacificos is very very good! I enojyed Lahaina Grill as well. It's not cheap, but there is a place at the Four Seasons next to the pool and it was the best cobb salad I have ever eaten. it was incredible!! But it was like $25 for a salas

My friends and I stayed in Lahaina for a week back in '08, but we just graduated from LSU and weren't ballin' yet so most of our meals were typical tourist spots. Milagros Food Co.is a South American/Mexican inspired place right before you hit the Road to Hana and had some of the best fish tacos on the island. Leilani's is on the beach...very nice atmosphere and good drinks.

The first meal (and Mai Tais) I had in Maui were at Mama's Fish House in Paia. The town was cool, the scenery was perfect and the company wasn't bad.
We drove around looking for this place and couldn't find it. Must have got bad directions.
Anyway, good luck with your jet lag.

Highly recommend Merriman's.

The only place I've eaten in Lahaina is Pioneer Inn and that was for breakfast after whale watching. It was really good and reasonably priced. The pancakes are huge.
Someone mentioned Merriman's. I have been to the one in Waimea on the Big Island, and it was excellent. So if the Maui location is the same as the Big Island one, then I can highly recommend it.

Any suggestions on places to go out? We'd like to do a little dancing. We're not trying to have a crazy night, but a little a music and partying would be ideal. Any ideas??
