How many make it to Cali, initially?

I was told 50 and then they narrow it down to the 22 or whatever that actually make the show.

Didn't someone else from here go to a tryout?

Dont remember who, but someone made it to Cali from TD.

I finally got around to watching last night.

Katrina is hard headed and I must have missed why she shouldn't have been in the elimination round.

No reason. She's just deluded. I tried to like her, cheering for the underdog fat girl, but she's shown her spots.

Tommy didn't melt down as I expected. I like him so far.

Love this guy so far. He absolutely cracks me up. I've been racking my brain about who his voice reminds me of.

Finally figured it out where I've heard that voice before.

She made some great cinnamon rolls, but I think protein may end up being her undoing. This week she has to kill crustaceans.

You have to think, knowing you're going to be on that show, that you'd get some good practice in with the proteins even if you don't eat them.

Good point.
Despite the fact that we bash them and pick on their failures, they are pretty good cooks. They makes some great stuff, and under intense pressure.

I can see Tommy on some show like "Say Yes to the Dress" or some similar incarnation. He does crack me up and I think the way he recognizes his own deficiencies is funny stuff and he hasn't been nearly as rude about Katrina as he could be. His barbs were pretty mild.

I like that too. On the other hand, he brings his dish to the table with confidence. He's going to make them tell him it's bad and then admits it when it is rather than walking up there with a hang dog look.

Yep. He's not giving up until the fat lady sings and I thought that was a great way to present that dish which looked awful. I think they kept him partly for the drama and partly because the other chick served raw food and he didn't. Raw primes bad looking, so it was a legitimate keep by a few hairs.

Yeah, Versacce's dish might have been hideous, but at least it was cooked properly.

Plus the other girl choked as team captain, that might have played into it.

Yeah, she choked and she didn't do anything but run around and act like a director during most of the time.

Great to see more of Jesse this time. That dish looked delicious. Good for him! They put him in a position of potentially making enemies twice.

How did I miss the judges tasting Justin's dish? I can't believe he used canned corn. I knew he used candy corn.

Poor Charlie's shrimp and grits sounded better than it looked. glad he bought another week.

Pretty sad to think with all those fresh ingredients in the pantry, that Justin would even consider using a canned product that must be the hero of the dish. Charlie really disappointed me with his failure of grits which is an easy staple that he should have nailed. Jesse seems to be a crowd favorite and has a personality that matches his cooking skills.

Really glad to see him make it through.

I definitely think they got it right in who they eliminated.

Woman judge is getting a bit wearing at times.

"I tried to say in a polite way that you needed more salt"

Woman, just say it! Or don't get the panties in a wad when they don't respond how you want.

First, you are the judge.
Second, if you think an 18 year old male is going to get your passive aggressive hints, you are crazy.

Didn't see much of Jesse last night, but I was glad he was on the winning team so he missed the challenge.

Shelly was a big fail at running her ship, but apparently she chose a good dish to serve. I was surprised at how close the votes were with her team automatically losing 8 votes for running out of time to serve the last 8 dishes.

I thought it was interesting that they didn't offer Shelly the option of of keeping herself in the round, but that didn't appear to be an option for her.

The whole thing set the stage for some future drama, of course, but this is more natural in the kitchen drama because they disagreed on the menu and on who should be in the last round. I have to agree with Shelly that this is a competition and I'd want one of the tougher competitors to go home if I'm doing the selecting. She just didn't get one of the ones she wanted out of there.

I couldn't remember who Dan was when they mentioned he'd left the competition. I had to look him up.

Went to the watch party last night, Jesse, Stephen, Charlie, Justin, and a few others that must have been early cuts were there. Nice guys, all of them.

Really surprised that the blue team was as close as they were with missing dishes, the overall weaker chef team, and arguably the weaker protein.

I didn't even catch that... it was hard to hear what was going on.

He said that he and Charlie were in the back of the team's kitchen space cooking the lobsters the whole time... and nothing went wrong so they never really ended up on camera. And then they won so no air time during the pressure test.

Shelly has really put a bull's-eye on herself by allowing the weakest of her team to be safe from elimination, Derrick will hound her until she completely falls apart. Christopher is a mess as well and needs to step up his game if he really wants to remain a threat in this competition. Not searing the other side of the Filet Mignon just about did him in.

That's what I was thinking. So if true, LSUBoo just ruined the show for the rest of us.

Huh? No, this whole thing has been pre-filmed. I have no idea how any of them do.

ETA: I see where that could have been confusing... there were two other contestants there that I didn't recognize, so I assume they were part of the initial cuts down to 22.
