Im about to buy a new smoker. Im looking at an Oklahoma Joe or a Char-Broil Longhorn. Both are horizontal offset smokers in the $429-$499 range. Does anyone have any scoop or experiance with these, or any other options I should consider.

if you don't get any hits on this tonight try again friday or saturday. there are a lot of people on here with good smoker knowledge

eta: and make your title a little more descriptive. this one has been anchored. something like "looking for a smoker in the $500 range. any suggestions?"

I have an older Oklahoma Joe that I absolutely love.

Weighs as much as a LeSabre, but is indestructible and cooks perfectly. Really like mine.

Good luck and have fun!

Don't discount a gas smoker. I have a master built extra wide and it turns out great BBQ. I cook ribs, brisket, pork shoulder and chicken pretty regular. Once you get the hang of temp control it's hard to beat for the simplicity and the product it puts out.

I own both an OK Joe Vertical smoker with offset fire box and a WSM. They both turn out delicious smoked food. The OK Joe is a fuel hog and the WSM can run on a load of coals for 16 hours. The fuel consumption is the biggest difference, for me. You can get both for right around this price.
