Down here all week for a conference and staying at the Marriott on the river. Any suggestions for let's say in the $15-30 range along the river or walking distance?

River Street itself is full of mediocre food. They sell the location. Huey's is actually pretty good, but mostly River Street is not the best purely for food.

Walking distance to the Marriott
B&D Burgers
Ordinary Pub
Kayak Cafe
Crystal Beer Parlor (longer walk)
Distillery
Leopold's (for ice cream)
Treylor Park (I haven't been but have heard good things)
Top Deck (for drinks and a view)
Rocks on the Roof (same)
Moon River Brewing
B. Matthews
Flying Monk Noodle Bar
Ruan Thai (have not been, heard good things)
Jazz'd Tapas Bar
Tubby's (outdoor eating on the river; food mediocre)
Screamin' Mimi's-Good cheap pizza
The Public Kitchen and Bar

More expensive:
Vic's on the River
45 Bistro
Pink House

On my trip a couple months ago I thought The Grey was just ok. Soho South was awesome.

What did you have at the Grey. I have not heard of Soho South. Where is it and what kind of food?

I'm copying off the menu to the best of my memory. I thought it was pretty good for the most part. Service was a little slow but not bad. Other than the oysters the food was all good, just not blow you away good. We did small plates/ apps with no big entree.

OYSTERS (vary nightly)- We had the around the world or whatever it's called. 5 bucks per for small oysters that were no better than a run of the mill gulf oyster. I've had a similar deal at Peche and was really impressed at the quality of the oysters. This was an utter rip off.

CRUDO – DAILY SELECTION MKT- It was Mahi Mahi if I remember right. Real good

SEAFOOD BOUDIN – CRAWFISH, SHRIMP, CAROLINA RICE, SHEEP, PRAWN CHIPS 15- Ok at best. Not sure why we got it.

SIZZLING SMOKY PIG – FRIED EGG, HOT BUNS, RED PEPPER JELLY 13- Great

CLAMS AND DUMPLINGS – PARSLEY, GARLIC, WHITE WINE 12- Good

COUNTRY PASTA – PORK BELLY, PARMESAN, CRACKED BLACK PEPPER 14- Good

SMOKED COLLARDS – LEEK, ONION, SHALLOT 8- Awesome. I tried to duplicate it as soon as we got home.

SUMMER SQUASH TERRINE – ONION, CHEDDAR, BREADCRUMB 8- Good

Again, The Grey wasn't bad by any stretch. Just not knock your socks off, which is what we were expecting.

Soho South is a lunch place my wife's cousin told us to try. It was fantastic. Not sure where exactly it was but we were staying on River st and walked away from the river about a mile to it. Big, quirky dining room with all kinds of mismatched furniture which seems to be the rage these days. Food is money though. I'd check it out if I were you..

OYSTERS (

We can do shrimp, but the oysters in Savannah have been a big disappointment to me. Overpriced and not that great.

There is a place in Sunbury, Ga that has some of the best fried oysters I've ever had.

Gotta try this.

How is shell house? Think I'm going to drive to AJ's Dockside on Tybee Island tomorrow afternoon.

I haven't been.

Love AJ's. Food is good, not great, but sitting outside in nice weather is great.

Heck if you are willing to drive, and want great food stop at 80 East on Tybee. It is attached to a gas station and doesn't look like much but the food is great.

Also if you are willing to drive, Green Truck for burgers and Toucan which I think is the best food in Savannah, dollar for dollar.

Wholeheartedly agree with this. Completely worth it.

I got a broiled bone in veal steak the size of my head that was caramelized with maple syrup and it was one of the best pieces of meat I've ever had in my life. Their bar makes excellent cocktails, the interior is really, really cool -- it's a converted Greyhound Bus Station from the 30s, and the service was absolutely top notch.

Hit up AJs, food was ok but the scenery was good. Not sure I would go back. Had the mahi special and the crab stew(stew was on point). After that I headed back into downtown grabbed a beer and strolled over to some Irish pub. I've pretty much just grabbed beers and walked all over downtown checking it out. Might grab a burger and head back to world of Beer tonight, unless yall have other suggestions.

If walking I recommend B&D. Two locations. One right on Broughton, the other is in City Market. Hotel can direct you.

People on the F&D board are not high on WOB but I like it. I've only been to the Savannah location and it does not feel like a chain at all.

Distillery is a great place to have a beer also.

You described AJs perfectly. Crab stew is probably their best dish. Sorry I forgot to mention their desserts. They are all very good.

I take it people don't come to b&d for the waitresses? Burger is delicious, but they need some work on their onion ring game.
