Got a buddy coming in from Tampa to look at condos in the area Monday, and was wanting some suggestions for lunch. We don't need fine dining or anything like that. Maybe a nice local bar or two in the area. For bars I know Ugly Dog Saloon but that's about it.
Any help would be appreciated.

Butcher and Lucy's for drinks. Most bars in that area will be dead during the day if even open.

good burger and philly cheese steak and hot bartenders.

I think a bud light is $3?

Here's some casual places with good/decent food and a bar atmosphere:

Ernst, Ugly Dog, Mannings, Gordon Biersch, American Sector, Lucy's, Ditcharo's

I had thought of Cochon Butcher, been to Cochon and liked it, but know nothing of the butcher.
We would likely eat some place other than the bar we go to, unless it really does have some good food.
What type of prices does American Sector have?

I like Rio Mar. I'd put them in a catagory with Emerile's, Tommy's, Mikes, Ruth's Chris, Cafe Adelaide, Herbsaint, Cochon, etc.

Well its probably the best sandwiches in the city and the most popular place to boot. If that tells you anything.

Agree, although on one of the best days of my life I had a few beers at Ditcharo's.

i've never eaten the food but i've drank a lot of beer there. i've always found it to be a decent dive bar for drinking. not much "atmosphere" but sufficient for drinking and bull-shiting with my friends.

Annunciation and Rene Bistrot are also in the area. I haven't been to either nor heard much about either, but they are both run by well-established chefs. Rene Bistrot is right across the street from Lucy's and Annunciation is like a block from The Rusty Nail, which has a nice patio and far and away the best beer selection in that area. SunRay Grill is right there too. These might fall in the "fine dining" category though (not SunRay). The old McGuire's pub got bought by the Rivershack Tavern owners and they apparently brought in some new people. I've been wanting to check that out as well.
