Early 80's, one of the original owners from New Orleans was running the place. Florida and Airline in that strip center where sports plus is. It lasted a few years. While it was OK I never understood the fascination with the place.

Lees Hamburgers is good. Used to eat it all the time in NOLA and Belle Chasse. It failed in Hammond but I was loyal until the end. Will visit the new location if I don't accidently take a left into PadNuhs.

Buds is the New Orleans version of Johnnys pizza. Once you let the nostalgia wear off, you realize it's nothing special. It's not bad, but it's a simple greasy burger and fries

No, just no, Johnny's Pizza sucks and a hundred shitty pizzas taste just like it.

While Bud's and Lee's aren't the giant 1/2lb megaburger that has it's place in all our hearts,' they both are awesome. They're different but they fill the gap between a near $20 burger meal and a $10 one. Believe it or not, on occasion, I'd like to seek out a Lee's, a Bud's, or even, (RIP) a Ground Patti Jr. and to hell with anyone that can't appreciate that.

An even better correlation in NOLA on the Mexican side would be Taco Tico, there's something I can't put my finger on but tons of people love it in the right circumstance. I'm not alone when I say there are plenty times I'd rather Taco Tico over even the best Tex Mex. It just is what it is and people are ridiculous in trying to compare it to Commander's Palace. We know it's trash but damn, it tastes good...

Just had it for lunch...The works and cheese fries. Still awesome.

BR should feel blessed.

BR doesn't need to be "blessed". BR is the capital of burger joints and Lee's being added, on Sherwood nonetheless, will have zero impact.

I think that a lot of you misunderstand exactly what kind of "burger joint" Lee's is ...

...it's not the 1/2 pound or bigger burgers on the artisan sweet buns, with peanut butter, kimchi or a fried egg as a topping, served with hand cut steak fries seasoned with Himalayan sea salt, and a local craft beer with it. They don't ground top grade cuts of beef that would normally be cut into steaks, either. I moght be wrong, but they likely don't even ground the meat in-house.

You guys are grouping Lee's together with the "specialty craft burger" restaurants, when the appropriate Baton Rouge comparison would be to equate it with Dearman's.(the one in Bocage, not that bullsh!t at the Courthouse)

It's old school burgers, dogs, shakes, floats, fries, onion rings, chili, etc ... nothing fancy, but nothing expensive either. While Baton Rouge has plenty of the kind of "Burger Joints" we're talking about, i can't remember a place like Lee's other than Dearman's. (did they ever re-open?)

Yea wasn't talking about any of that.

Put it up against George's, Sammy's, Rauls, Brewbachers, Akasha, Goodwood Grill, or Dearmans (like you mentioned) and it can't compare. All those places are old school "burger joints".

... all of those places are exactly what i was talking about (minus the outlandish topings). I don't think ONE of them has a burger under a half pound, AND not one of them is a straight burger joint, they're all restaurants with other menu items. If you called any place that even sold a burger at all a "burger joint," that would be a majority of the places in Baton Rouge ... the only comparable place was Dearman's, and they're closed last i heard.

The burgers are cooked over charcoal and have real shredded cheddar, not fried to a crisp with shitty American cheese like 5 guys and Steak and Shake and all the other crappy franchises.

Unclebuck, that is exactly what I was trying to say before though I may have been a bit bombastic. Lee's is a damn fine burger for the money and I wish I had it and a Bud's here in Houston...
