The Victorinox 8" chef's knife is great. I've had mine for years and I still use it every bit as often as my more expensive Global. Can't comment on the others but Cooks Illustrated recommendations have always been hits with me.

I was watching Cook's Country last night and they reviewed rice cookers. Their pick was the Aroma 8 Cup Digital Rice Cooker and Steamer which sells for just $30. I never felt the need for one before, I cook rice just fine on the stovetop. But for that price I might pick one up and see what all the fuss is about.

I have a rice cooker, never use it. Just another item to take up space. I guess it's good if you need to do a lot (i bought mine for a boudin making session), but otherwise, like you say, stove works just fine.

Had a rice cooker I used for years. Then the ex took it. Now I do rice the ole fashioned way and it's easier and has not turned it too moist/dry yet just using directions on rice bag. Waist of drawer/cabinet space imo

I received my Anova wifi precision cooker yesterday. Haven't been able to link it it to my wifi yet but haven't had much time to tinker with it yet

ETA: finally got it connected

I use my rice cooker weekly if not more. Comes out better than I can make it on stove. I love it.

I have several rice cookers. Large ones for big crowds and a small one for a small number. I love them. Use them all the time. I will replace them if one breaks. It really depends on how often you cook rice and in what amounts to determine if you would enjoy one. I got the little one at Walgreen's for 10 bucks one year a long time ago. Well worth 10 bucks.

We can all thank Mr. Floyd Soileau of Floyd's record shop in Ville Platte for introducing rice cookers to the coonass masses!

Foodsaver Vacuum Sealer Amazon

I use the hell out of mine from freezing stuff, marinading, cooking sous vide, keep cheese way longer, just very useful. I originally bought it to just put stuff in the freeezer, but it does way more.

many of the boudin shops use a rice cooker to steam and hold the links
it's definitely a multi tasker

I just use my rice cooker for when I cook more than 3 cups of rice.

Just use the stove for 3 or less.

Helps to not have to deal with the rice when cooking large dishes.
