It's short notice but I will be driving through there tomorrow around 5pm and want to hit a good BBQ joint. Any recommendations? It's just me so it can be a dive.

I've seen No Reservations so if nothing else I will hit one of those joints.

I have family there, we always go to Jack Stack, and it's great.

Had OK Joes a month ago. The ribs were awesome. Didn't make it to Jack Stack but I heard good things.

Oklahoma Joes, Jack Stack. Never tried LC's but I've heard really good things about it. LC's is more of a local joint. Gates and Arthur Bryant's aren't what they used to be per the locals.

Anthony bourdain put oklahoma joe's on his list of "13 places to eat before you die":

quote:

13) Oklahoma Joe's Barbecue (Kansas City, Kansas) People may disagree on who has the best BBQ. Here, the brisket (particularly the burnt ends), pulled pork, and ribs are all of a quality that meet the high standards even of Kansas City natives. It's the best BBQ in Kansas City, which makes it the best BBQ in the world.

I ate at there and Gates. For the record I liked Gate's better, but OK joe's is obviously famous.

Whatever you choose, order brisket and/or ribs..getting chicken wont do these places justice. But Gate's barbecue really showed me what KC barbecue is all about. Everyone gets greeted with a "Hi, may I help you?" upon entering. The ribs and burnt ends are divine. I bought a shirt there and it smelled like smoke for months until I wore it.
