It didn't come with the bowl or three standard attachments. It is the Ultra Power model that retails for ~$250.

I think it's an older model, I dated it to 2001, but I'm waiting to hear back from Kitchen Aid Customer Service to find the date of production.

Anyway, here's the picture:

The only issue with the operation, is that it makes a clicking noise every time it makes a full rotation. Should I disassemble and re-grease or is this just a typical noise the older models make?

It has a slight chip on it and a few scratches. I'm gonna try and shine it up a bit, but I'm happy. I think the older models are more well made anyway from what I've been reading. I can't wait to get the pasta roller and ravioli maker going. And the meat grinder. So many other options as well.

One more thing for those that have a KA stand mixer:

I was going to purchase the paddle, whisk and dough hook. I found this paddle that is aftermarket but seems to be getting rave reviews

It's a NewMetro Beater Blade. It's designed to scrape the sides of the bowl from batter, etc. so you don't have to stop the mixer and manually scrape the sides of the bowl with a spatula.

Also, I've heard the "S" dough hook is the better one to buy. Thoughts? Thanks.

Hopefully it is in good shape and will last you many years. However, you could have probably waited a bit longer and gotten a nice sale around Black Friday and paid $100 more or so for a brand new one with the bowl and some of the attachments you didn't get. I mean, how much are you going to spend on a bowl and a dough hook? I am not seeing a big savings over a decently priced new one. I don't doubt that the older ones are better made but 2001 isn't that old, I think it is the ones even older than that that were probably made to last 3 lifetimes. Even still, the ones you buy today should last your lifetime. Hope you like, I absolutely love mine.

Oh, and I love the picture of that paddle. Great idea to have something to scrape the edges. One thing I always thought they got wrong was not having a paddle that did the scraping for you.

The ultra power retail for $250. I just bought the bowl and attachments for $65. So I saved about $135, got the better dough hook I was going to buy anyway, and got a more functional paddle. Win all around I think. Not bad and I probably got a better product.

I just took it apart and the planetary gear box is in really nice shape. It was well taken care of. I haven't gotten into the tower housing but we'll see. I may regrease it all, but I'm not sure that's wise. They are supposedly greased for the life of the product.

I'm now one of the few people who repair these. It's sad how many get tossed for bad gears or switches. (like $10 each) I like keeping these things going. I bought four broken ones last month for $25-35 each and sold each one for $100 after a cheap repair on each.

Now for your problem.

It depends. I would recommend a re grease anyway and that way you can clean off the old grease and apply new food grade grease (you can get on Amazon for great prices) Being that it's only during a full rotation then we know it's not the motor, worm gear or the pinion gear.

At worst case it's your planetary going out. This is the hardest part to change, but even then it's not that bad. I can get you production date from the model and serial number.

The noise only once a rev definitely sounds like a planetary problem.

Even then, this is only a $20 part. Best thing is the 2001 models have super cheap electronics. The speed control board is only $8 and the main inverter board is only $18. Take it apart and clean the grease out and inspect the gear teeth. If you see no broken or badly worn teeth then definitely it's the planetary.

I can get you parts diagrams manuals and all. Talk you through how to fix them and all.

I'm one of maybe four or five companies that fix these in Louisiana. Lot of experience with them.

I saw someone said to get a new one, but the old ones were better made IMO.

Especially the older professionals.

(the new ones are a heck of a lot easier to work on and are more modular as far as component replacement)

What should my next step be? Opening it all the way up and looking at the tower gear box assembly?

I glanced at the planetary gears and they looked decent, but I did see some metal shavings. I wasn't sure where those came from.

You said you took it apart already?

The back cover, then the snap ring, then removed the screws to separate the top portion?

28, 14 and 21 are the ones you want to inspect the closest.

You would want to take it apart, use a good cleaner to remove the grease, and inspect the teeth on the gears. with special attention to 28, 14, and 21.

What do you recommend as a grease cleaner? And a good grease to replace it?

Thanks for your help!

(that is the factory grease. I am starting to use a new grease, actually haven't used it once yet, but is was recommended to me. I need to go to my shop to get the name though. (it was on Amazon)
really any food grade grease will work.

So I just tried to grind meat, and it stopped spinning. One of the gears must be stripped.

How do I get into the main housing?
