Eleven New Orleans restaurants, chefs and bars have made the cut as semifinalists for this year’s prestigious James Beard Foundation Awards, with the city's dining scene represented in several categories.

Chef Donald Link of Herbsaint, Cochon and Cochon Butcher is again up for the Outstanding Chef award, an honor he was nominated for last year as well.

Five of the 20 semifinalists for the 2013 Best Chef: South award are local — Justin Devillier of La Petite Grocery, Tory McPhail of Commander’s Palace, Alon Shaya of Domenica, Michael Stoltzfus of Coquette and Sue Zemanick of Gautreau’s. Justin Girouard of the French Press in Lafayette also got that nod.

Semifinalists in other categories include Borgne for Best New Restaurant; Restaurant August for Outstanding Restaurant; Brigtsen’s for Outstanding Service; The Grill Room at the Windsor Court for Outstanding Wine Program, and Cure for Outstanding Bar Program.

Earlier this month, the foundation announced that Emeril Lagasse will receive its Humanitarian of the Year Award for 2013.

The announcements come with a Hollywood-style build-up. The semifinalists were unveiled today (Tuesday, Feb. 19), with the finalists to be announced on March 18 during a brunch in South Carolina and via Twitter.

The medallions, often called the Oscars of the food world, will be presented at a swank ceremony May 6 at New York’s Lincoln Center.

I think they were throwing Besh a bone with the Borgne pick.

Just a tip of the cap to Besh. He is entirely disengaged from Domenica. I agree with you.

Well deserved. He has done a TON for St. Michael's special school in New Orleans.

Wasn't nominated this year. Has plenty of awards already.

Bourgne is nominated for New restaurant, which Austust obviously isn't qualified.

Just wish there was some place to find most of the chefs cooking, say BBQ, and having fun, say in late March.

Everyone but Sue, Alon, and Justin from French Press in Lafayette. Plus, a whole bunch of chefs nominated for Best Chef Southeast or Outstanding Chef - Sean Brock, Ashley Christiansen, the A&M Italian Kitchen Guys, Jim n Nick's, etc... are coming in to cook for the Southern Asado Dinner Friday night and to compete Saturday.

I guess I'm out of the loop because I have no idea what you're hinting at.
