I've had meh to awful food at 8 straight Tex Mex places in the last 6 months.

Tequilas ( Gulf Shores ) - Absolutely awful

El Jarrito ( Ruston ) - Bad

Las Palmas ( Brusly ) - Bad

La caretta ( Government St. BR ) - Not very good

Aztecas ( Downtown Baton Rouge ) - Meh

Gueros ( S. Congress, Austin ) - Meh

Enchiladas Y Mas ( Austin ) - Meh

Glorias ( Downtown Austin ) - Meh ( Although the atmosphere was great and will bring me back )

What am I doing wrong?

Well, expecting good messican at the first 4 places is like me expecting good cajun in Dallas. Then the places you went to Gueros which is a well known meh and Glorias which is really Salvadoran that has tex mex.....but they are a chain and their quality has dropped even at the original location in Dallas. Ench. Y mas is usaully solid. What are you ordering at these places?

what are you judging these places on? Let us know what you order.

Ever since I met a guy who solely judged how good a Tex Mex place was by how good their queso was, i have to ask people.

Maybe you don't like Tex mex food?

A new one opened up in ocean springs recently and it's really good.

El Tiempo

This.

El Tiempo and Ninfa's on Navigation are the best Tex Mex places I've found anywhere.

Enchiladas Y Mas ( Austin )

My old hood. Don't be fooled by the Mas though, it's really just about the cheese enchiladas. I hope you also went by the Sunrise Mini Mart a few doors down. Very unassuming from the outside but it's actually one of the better bottle shops in Austin.

I usually just order a combo plate. Usually something with enchiladas or a chili relleno and tacos. I ordered two chicken and a cheese enchilada at enchiladas Y mas and it was ok but not great.

I will say that in 2015, I ate twice at one of the Aztecas in Charlotte ( Not related to the one in BR ) and I had two good meals. One dish, Arroz Con Pollo, was excellent.

I also enjoy my local Flores, but this has more to do with how strong they make my margaritas. Food is somewhat terrible. Steak fajita tacos a la carts only like 3.50
