Is raw bacon safe to eat?

Having an argument with my roomates. I told them it's smoked and safe to eat. I ate a peice and they thought I was crazy. Am I crazy?

It's not raw. Cured and smoked.

If it was actually smoked it's not raw, unless you're talking about raw bacon that just had smoke flavor added.

I think bacon is typically cold smoked, not hot smoked (and therefore cooked).

I never knew there was such a thing as cold smoking. Learn something new every day.

Well, fine then. 
And it will probably have to be coffee. My Margarita days are long since past. NLU cured me of that.

i believe this is how one smokes cheeses. i have always wanted to smoke some cheese.

I was just thinking the same thing. Slimy, chewy nastiness.
Why eat it raw when you can fry it up in a pan and eat crunchy, smokey wonderfulness?
