Thought's on Adolfo's???

I'm looking to try a more casual creole italian place on Friday and this has been on my list for a while.

I like it a lot. They don't take reservations so get there early. It's never a bad thing to wait downstairs at The Apple Barrel though. Get whatever fish they recommend with ocean sauce.

Great food. Quintessential New Orleans Creole Italian. It is family run and the service is notoriously "not in a hurry"- so if you're uptight and on a schedule it's not the place to go- but if you've got time and a good friend to talk with, the food is fantastic and a great value IMO.

Get there at 7:30. It isn't that big of a place.

Ocean Sauce is a little rich for me.

Really like the mussels when they run them.

I went a couple of weeks ago and I enjoyed it. I got the grouper with the ocean sauce. I believe it's cash only though.

That's some old school presentation. Looks like they didn't GAF when they plated it. What's all that stuff on the right side of the fish?

That plate doesn't look appetizing to me. Might taste good, but it doesn't look good.

Well, it doesn't have to look good to taste good, but I would have expected them to plate a bit better just by virtue of reputation.

ETA: Is this another first date or you got a steady these days?

I like the place - yeah, plating is not on the top of their list, but the food is good and relatively inexpensive. Has a hole in the wall atmosphere, so I never expected the plating to be tops. On a Fri night, could be a loong wait. In the past, I've waited 90 mins for a weekend table, but Apple Barrel is good (and always has live music).

Plating is definitely not their thing. Nothing is pretty, but everything I've had there has been cooked just like it should be and has been good. The ocean sauce is too heavy for fish IMO though.

Yeah, that fish looks like it's still swimming in that sauce. However, bread could take care of that, I suppose.
