3. Leave within 15 minutes of finishing your food and drinks This is similar to the "don't show up right before closing rule," only it's about leaving, not arriving. If you and your party have paid the bill, you'd better be out within 15 minutes. Still finishing your drinks? Finish them faster. Enjoying a great conversation? Take it somewhere else or order more drinks. The restaurant needs time to clear and re-set the table for the next round of diners. Don't be a table hog, especially if you can see that the place is busy. And as I said before, the staff have places to go at the end of the night too. Maybe they aren't welcoming any more diners for the evening, but that doesn't give you the right to stay longer than necessary. If you're leaving at the same time as the waiters, you've stayed too long.
Back in the day, my Dad would have said f you to all of that.

Then theres always this by Degas:

[Dipping the leaves in ghee and slurping the meat off while the butter runs down to your chin as your date does the same thing is not romantic? Maybe sensual is a better word, but there's something about artichokes.]

If the place is noticeably busy, I'll try not to linger, but if there are open tables, I see no problem in enjoying your time

I hope the people who sat at a table for three hours AFTER paying their bill in Houston read this. We had a 7:30 reservation and after an hour and much apologizing we were seated at another table by the manager.

Act as if you fear of a spanking for being a piece of shite child that embarrassed your parents in public, end of story. Act as if the "mommy telegraph" network still worked and your escapades arrived at your back door before you.

As someone that worked in a restaurant for seven years....

A-freaking-men.

The part about being nice to your server and not treatinghim like a slave needs to be posted on paycheck stubs. I know we are all ballers, but the folks who can only afford once a month eating out are the worst. Go to sonic you inconsiderate asshats.

they need to add "take your hat off if you are at a place where you order off a menu a waiter brings you"

seriously can't understand the amount of assholes wearing baseball caps while eating at nicer restaurants.

I remeber being about 16 wearing a hat. My dad said, "look around. Do you see anyone else wearing a hat?"

I did, but it was a guy that I didn't want to look like. Learned my lesson then.

Like a bar or one of their houses to do blow and bitch about work. They should have picked another job if they didn't want to wait on people.

20% is not the norm. 15-18 is. 20 to 20+ is good. 10-12 is bad

I would say less than 25% of all restaurants are the type of place where a hat would not be acceptable. America is filled to the brim with hamburger and sports restaurants, nothing wrong with wearing a hat in any of those.
