Is there a general rule of how much roux you use for a gumbo?

1/2 cup each oil and flour per every 6 to 7 cups of liquid is a decent start.

I used two cups of oil and two cups of flour last week for a pot that fed 20-30. Had some leftovers for another 5 or 6 servings.

Gumbo recipes I've surveyed run from about 20-1 to 6-1 stock-to-roux ratio.

1 cup flour and 1 cup oil make 1 1/3 cup of roux.
