4 - 5 lbs is a pretty good starting point

If we are assuming that all people are from south LA and know how to eat crawfish, I would do this;

Women - 3 lbs each
Men - 5-10 lbs each
Kids - < 3 lbs each

I usually put everyone in a spreadsheet and estimate how much each person will eat. This is mainly because some guys can put down a ton of crawfish, and some will just only eat about 5 lbs. Most women aren't going to eat more than 3.

5lbs per person for a mixed crowd will usually leave leftovers. Probably closer to 3 lbs would be more accurate. A bunch of dudes can knock out 6-7 per pretty easy. All assuming there is plenty of accompaniments

We always did 3 lbs per female and 5 lbs per male.

Like others have said, this is assuming you are going to have all the usual (potatoes, sausage, garlic, etc.)

10 lbs? I can't recall seeing anybody eat 10 lbs at a social crawfish boil. If it's just a few friends, maybe so, but still...I'm handing you some corn and potatoes at some point.

Depends on the crowd. Women will usually account for 3 pounds, skinny guys 4 lbs, giant fat plant operators 5-6 lbs.

Ours are always family affairs, and I have 3 uncles that are the first ones at the table and the last ones to leave. It's pretty damn impressive. I guarantee 10 lbs happen for each of them. If all 3 are going to be present we always joke we need an extra sack.

Me and my brothers and uncles can smash 10lbs a piece with some light beer, but aunts mom and female cousins may have a handful of crawfish to maybe 2-3lbs so it averages out..... But I know for a fact I can smash 10 looking for something to eat. Social setting or not, it's a crawfish boil, put the trash can close if you don't like my huge pile of heads

I've got a good friend that will bring his own sack to the boils a show of courtesy to the host.
