I've got an Environment from August of 16 that's been sitting with my tiger tanker since then. Replaced him with a strawberry canebrake so I save one for when my mom comes in town. So is the envie still good? Regardless I'll drink unless it'll cause a slow death.

It's drinkable but not going to be any good.

Tbh, I don't know what it would taste like because I haven't had one that old.

I just cant understand the sudden love for IPA that everyone seems to have in the last couple of years. I have repeatedly given it chance after chance and just cannot aquire a taste for it.

Its not even that. Every single one of us on this board were brought up with budweiser, coors, etc. i ama apparently only speaking for myself when I say my taste in beers went more towards lagers and pilsners. There are lots of craft beers that fit into those taste profiles. Im not making fun, I just am genuinely curious how many people actually like envie and ghost vs who is just drinking it because it is cool.

I find myself switching around to different types often. I brought back some Envie from a trip to Baton Rouge back in the fall, and it was great. But I'll also drink a sour, a Saison, or a porter.

I used to eat chicken nuggets as a child too, but now I like steak, seafood, and fine cuisine. Tastes change and your palate becomes more evolved. I love hoppy beers like ghost and Envie. Envie is a constant staple in my fridge. I also love good stouts, saisons, and am a sour and funky beer freak. I enjoy most beers as lon as they are done well. It's not a hipster coolness thing, it's a quality thing and wanting to drink something that has flavor to it.
You want to drink BMC, knock yourself out. They are high quality as well but are mostly flavorless.

In the last week, I've had Envie, Korova Milk Porter, and New Belgium's Lips of Faith Transatlantique Kriek, just off the top of my head. As other posters have said, it's all about beers being done well.

As for IPAs (Envie is actually a more fruit forward APA, but I get what you're saying), I think the draw is similar to why some people prefer sparkling/mineral water over flat. While some people find the taste off or bitter, some people find it refreshing.

I'm sure there's a small subset that socially nurses an Envie in the same way an insecure housewife might suffer through a Perrier, but most people drinking both products actually enjoy them.

Life's too short to not drink what you like. A buddy of mine keeps trying to find a whisky or bourbon he likes. I've let him try several great bourbons, and some cheap stuff. He doesn't like any of it. And he's even tried mixing with coke, ginger ale, sprite, mountain dew, or a few drops of water. It just isn't for him.

I think acquiring that taste, for some, comes with age. Even with beer too.

The only bourbon i used to drink was mixed with coke or sprite, and it was usually well stuff, in college. Now that i'm many years post college, i've found my go to. While i do really love Blanton's, 4 Roses, Eagle Rare, etc... My go to is buffalo trace. I drink it on the rocks or with a splash of water. I have to watch out though, because once i go to bourbon, i stick with bourbon, which leads to a rough morning.

Yeah, but this guy is a few years older than me, and my 36th birthday is in a few weeks. I'm the same way with certain liquors. I just much prefer bourbon.

I think most people who regularly drink and try different IPA's do genuinely like them. I remember I was blown away by how good my first Envie was. Also I like how I can drink 2-3 IPA's around 6% ABV and get a nice buzz. I don't taste the alcohol much in higher gravity IPA's like other beers.

So you can't understand different tastes in things?

I was mostly off of beer until the IPA craze it. I love the style because of the complex and full flavor without being overly heavy or stout and the variety of styles available.

That is only part of what I was trying to say. I understand that certain people like certain things and others can hate the same thing (like cilantro). It is more of a matter of this style of beer tastes so different from "the norm". I can drink most varieties but IPA is sooo different that I wonder how it is as popular as it is, when we (in general) were not exposed to it for most of our lives. (That statement does not apply to younger beer drinkers).

Im really not being judgemental or condescending. It is genuine curiosity. If you like Envie and Ghost, then to hell with what I think, you should drink them till your heart is content.
