Given the choice, I'd own McD's.......

Much higher potential, store to store.

Of course you could own several SW for one McD's......giving you flexibility and an oportunity to adjust your strategy more easily.

Dear Mods:

This was more of a general discussion thread than a food thread. In fact it could just as easily have gone on the Money board.

kthx

Hit the jackpot on a genius marketing campaign, grossly decrease the quality of your food, and have 300 million fat fricks thinking they'll be America's next top model if they eat your product.

That's how.

Dear Kafka,

When you post a thread on TD, you immediately lose control of the path it takes.

probably because it is MUCH cheaper to start a franchise like subway. doesn't cost much to make a sandwich. know what i mean?

not to mention, you can open one in a very small building in strip malls.

That has zero to do with it.

If mcdonalds were the more wanted product the investment would be worth it. But they are not.

The Subways that I've been to were all located in gas stations. Total space is something like 8' x 12'. Don't think you can put a McDonalds in that.

Their food is garbage. At least subway has a few tasty sandwiches.

Has nothing to do with it (more to do with the smaller footprint required)... Also, in most cases McD's own the real estate their stores are on and Subway rents... Look at the avg. sales volume per store and that is more telling than number of stores... McD's made an effort a decade or so ago to stop opening so many new locations to build sales and focus on operations... they were starting to cannibalize their own sales. That's the same reason Starbuck's shuttered many of their locations a couple of years ago..

And, no, franchisee's aren't awarded territories..

My friend use to own two Subways. The one on David Drive just off Vets and one on the Northshore. Corporate doesn't care if another Subway franchise owner opens up a location a half mile from an existing one.
