In Houston for a few days for the first time and want to hit a good bbq place and a good tex Mex place. What do yall like?

Any other recs would be appreciated as well. Just came from New Orleans, so seafood isn't necessary unless out of this world.

Isn't Hugo's the place EVERYBODY recommends? I've never been but dan not all those people are wrong?? That's Tex mex.

El Tiempo is damn good too. Only 2 Rita's. 4 Rita's and you fall into a wormhole and wake up 9 hours later.

Actually Hugo's is more traditional Mexican, but awesome nonetheless. Go to El Tiempo for tex mex.

The best BBQ in the area is at Killens down in Pearland. The best BBQ close to town is Gatlins.

For all other recs, just search for offshoreangler's posts. It seems like he responds to the same question about once a week now and all his recs are spot on.

Tex Mex-El Tiempo....if you want something more upscale-Hugo's or Caracol

BBQ-Killens in Pearland

Other notable recs-Coltivare, Liberty Kitchen for something casual, BCN, Pax Americana, Common Bond or Local Foods for lunch

Houston is getting better at cutting edge cuisine...but I'll be honest-it's just not this city's thing. We do however excel at authentic ethnic places which I find are some of the best in the country. I have huge list for those if you're interested.

Offshoreangler, I'd be interested in seeing your list of ethnic places? You are always my go to poster for Houston eats. Thanks

Killens in Pearland is not far from Houston at all and worth it. You won't find better in Houston.

El Tiempo for Tex-Mex for sure. There are different locations and I'm not sure what area of Houston you are in, but it won't be hard for you to find.

Thanks guys, definitely going to try and hit up killens and el tiempo.

I am staying in Eldridge, any recs close for when we don't want to go far would be great too.

What's the best meal of anything around here? Feel free to post the ethnic stuff here too, offshore.

Probably not the best meal in the city, but I'll say it just b/c its fresh in my mind...

Reef just blows me away everytime I can make it in. Caswell has done an amazing job with that place.

Truly the best Mahi I have ever tasted, and the only pork chop I've tasted that is as good as Perrys.

I work on Eldridge parkway. There are a plethora of very good Indian restaurants in the area right around here.

Yeah, if you are interested at all in Indian food, I would highly recommend a place called Nirvana. They do a great buffet for lunch, always packed. It is actually on Memorial Drive which intersects Eldridge Parkway. If you turn down Memorial from Eldridge it isn't too far down on the right hand side.

There is also another one on Highway 6 just North of I10 called Annam. Not a buffet, but very good food. Always full of authentics.
