Yea, there's a bunch of great suggestions already, so I'll just reiterate the Hay Merchant one. No body is close to HM when you combine food and tap list. Petrol Station does have a good burger though.

D&Q is best for limited release beers, because sometimes specs sells out quick, or hoards several cases for employees. For the beer you should be looking for, Specs will do the trick and will be much cheaper.

If you're a fan of brewery glassware though, D&Q has a pretty nice selection.

ETA: If you're a big group, you may have trouble finding a place at Hay Merchant on a Friday/Saturday night.

Hans Beirhaus is what you're think of near The Village with bocce. Brooklyn Athletic Club on Richmond is new, has damn fine food, and boccie, croquet, and good drinks.

For beer bars...Petrol Station, Hay Merchant, Mongoose vs. Cobra, Liberty Station.

My Houston beer adventure this wekend will consist of a St. Arnold visit, a Dynamo game, beer drinking at Flying Saucer, and then a Specs run. bbrou33, if you're at Flying Saucer on Saturday night, look for the motliest crew and that will be us.

I would go to Outlaw Dave's World Headquarters Friday evening if you can make it. Karbach is doing an event there and will tapping a cask of hoppadillo, and also will have some experimental beers.

St. Arnolds is fun, but is usally pretty crowded.

Besides Karbach you can look into:
No Label in Katy - like 5 min from my house. Great beers and it is really relaxed. Usually have a band and food trucks.

Fort Bend Brewing - new brewery in Sugarland area, haven't been but looks nice.

Buffalo Bayou Brewery - another new brewery supposed to have good beers, but I haven't been yet.
