Help me choose a cookware set

I'm looking to upgrade my cookware. Looking to spend in the $300-400 range and want a good 7-9 pieces in a stainless set.
Thoughts on brands I should consider? Thanks
These two are the frontrunners so far:
Cuisinart MCP-12N MultiClad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set
Emeril by All-Clad E914SC PRO-CLAD Tri-Ply Stainless Steel Cookware Set, 12-Piece, Silver

I'd go with All-Clad, Calphalon or Cuisinart

Not a big fan of sets, as I know what sizes I use most frequently...need more larger pots and never seem to use the smallish ones often included in sets.
That said, I like All Clad's MC2 line; it's older, has a brushed exterior finish (no need to polish) and long, sturdy handles. Flat lids that are easy to clean. Stainless interior (forget nonstick saucepans, they're no good). Some of the newer All Clad lines are too "pretty". Give me functional over pretty any day of the week.

I have the calphalon tri-ply and like them a lot. I agree with not buying sets of you don't have to, but it's hard to find single pieces of the cheaper brands sometimes. I bought a 12 piece and rarely use the 2 fry pans or the stock pot/strainer. I'd rather have two more small and medium size sauce pans

Only reason I am looking at a a set is because everything I own right now is crap except of one or two pans...so I really am trying to start over with the basics.
I do use pans much more than pots though.

These days I buy stainless pieces as I want them from a local restaurant supply store.

I bought that Emeril set 10 years ago when I moved into my house in NOLA. It's served me well.

I have All Clad and really like it. It's my "go to" brand. If I need it and they make it, I buy from them. I have everything from pots, pans, non stick, soup bowls, kitchen utensils, measuring cups, griddle, crock pot...
They make fantastic stuff, never had a problem with any of it. The All Clad brand is made in USA, while the Emeril is made in China...if that matters to you.
