Have to go over that way for work Thurs and Fri. I want to bring home a King Cake for the family. Any suggestions? As of right now, I'm debating between Haydel's bakery or Manny Randazzo's.. Never had either. Last year I bought one of the Randazzo cakes from the mardi gras store by Cortana and it was just alright. Someone told me that the Manny Randazzo cake in Metairie is better, that the one I bought at the carnival store is his sister's recipe or something like that.

Any suggestions?

Ok, I get the hint. lol I did a search and it looks like I may not be the first person registered to TD to wonder which king cake to buy in New Orleans. And it also looks like a 50/50 split on Haydel's/Randazzo's.

One last question then. Is the Manny Randazzo cake in Metairie really different than the one I got from the Mardi Gras store by Cortana? Because I didn't care for that one all that much.

I have found the NOLA king cakes and BR king cakes are vastly different. Enjoy both, just thought I would drop that in order to give this thread some life.

Manny's in Metairie is much better than whatever you had. Manny has several distant family members(some like the Chalmette one's are crazy) and an ex wife that are all in the business.

Manny's is just better and more consistent.

I like Haydels alot too though and if you go to their store, you can pick up lots of other goodies too.
Grab a cajun kringle along with your king cake if you stop there.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to go to Haydel's. It sounds like I can't go wrong with either, but at least at Haydel's I can pick up some other goodies for the ride home.
