Has Chelsea's changed chefs/kitchen management recently?

My favorite meal in Baton Rouge has been Chelsea's Calamari Poboy for years. That delicious soft white bread and perfectly cooked calamari was always a hit.

However, I went last week and I was very, very disappointed in my meal. The calamari was very chewy. To the point that we sent back our appetizer plate. They also changed the bread to what looked like some whole grain stuff that just wasn't the same.

Honestly after that meal I cannot feel comfortable even suggesting it to others. Has anyone else had a recent experience like this or did I just go on an off day?

I have to agree, the food there has been on a steady decline. Trout Bandit could probably shed some light.

Last time I went a few weeks ago, it was as good as ever.

That being said, it has been through plenty of kitchen managers if that's what you're asking. Friend of mine was the kitchen manager there and left a few months ago.

But he was only the kitchen manager for a year or so -- so his departure specifically wouldn't be what you notice. Maybe just an off day

If this is true since my last visit a couple weeks ago, I will DIE.

Their bread was so good because they baked it in house.

I haven't been in a few months, so I can't tell you. When I went last spring, my chicken mojo was as good as ever. If something has happened there, it's been recent.

I could handle the overcooked calamari, but the bread was a huge disappointment.

Yea I go monthly and the first time I've ever had a problem was last weekend. If it was just the poorly cooked calamari I would just say an off day, but with the bread change I was curious.

Thomas has been managing the kitchen for a good while and still is. Ate there recently and it was good not great. It could be that they got a bad batch of calamari. Haven't had it in a while. The place isn't as appealing as it used to be to me.

I've been and had bad bread a few times. I think they sometimes run out of the bread they make in-house and have to resort to something store bought. Really ruins the experience and kind of scares me from ordering certain things since you never know what you might get.

If it was the bread they use for their chicken bacon Swiss sandwich, that is my favorite bread of all time.

Although I see how you could be disappointed if you expected the focaccia they use for poboys.

Last 2 meals I had there were the worst 2. I wouldn't be opposed to a new menu there either.

The calamari has sucked at Chelsea's for years. I've had that happen on two different occasions...sent back the ridiculously over cooked first order, thinking it was a simple mistake, and had it come out exactly the same the time they "corrected" it. It's crazy that anyone there could send it to a table, and think that's what calamari is supposed to be like. I still like most of the food there, but it's not nearly as good as I remember it when it was the old location. The overpass location is way cooler though.
