If you clicked on that site, TD then starts to show ads that you've clicked on. If I've clicked on a site on my laptop to shop wholly unrelated to TD, that site starts showing up in the left column. It's creepy. 
However, everyone should have a set of those most wonderfully marvelous plates!

I don't click on the ads either. I click on links in threads, though, and if they're a product, you can bet it's going to start showing up in the left column.

They can also look at your google search history and also get keywords from sites (or threads) you've visited.
