I know grilling green onions is not an original idea. What I would want to try is to infuse some form of sweetener into the onions. Anybody tried this or have ideas on how to make it tasty?

Honey? Sugar water? Just plain confectioners sugar?

I would not think you would need a sweetener. Just put them on a hot fire and caramelize them a bit.

Agree with this. I've grilled them on a grill basket many times and they come out pretty sweet.

Kebabs with ribeye, red bell pepper and green onions is one of my favorites. No sweetener needed. The heat will sweeten them up a bit. I like em a little charred.

I'm aware of grilled green onions with Romesco. I just thought they could benefit from being sweeter. Maybe caramelization is a possibility.

If they aren't sweet enough for you just drizzle some honey on them about halfway through charred and let it caramelize.

That or just a small sprinkle of sugar once they've started to sweat a bit.

When done, you could drizzle some balsamic syrup over them.

You can marinate the onions with a Bulgogi marinade or garlic teriyaki sauce. Don't forget the Romesco.
That's what I planned on posting with my link last night but I spaced and hit submit.

Cebollitas al Carbon (grilled green onions)

Ingredients

3 bunches green onions
1 tablespoon cooking oil
fresh ground sea salt
fresh lime
Directions:

Preheat grill to medium high. Make sure the grill is nice and hot. Trim the roots off of the green onions. Cut off the top third of the green tops. Very lightly coat with the cooking oil so they don't stick to the grill. Lay the onions on the hot grill until seared about 2-4 minutes per side. You want nice grill marks. Onions are done when nicely browned and slightly wilted.

Plate, and squeeze lime juice over the top. Sprinkle with fresh ground salt.
