Ladies and Gents football is right around the corner and I have a question.

What brand or type of smoker/grill do you recommend? I prefer charcoal as it just tastes better than gas and I am not looking for a large multi burner.

I have had a five gas burner previously and it seemed over kill even for large parties. I sold it to the movers as it was my chance to get back to charcoal, ha.

My old neighbor in Beverly Hills had one similar to this...LINK

We cooked some mean meat on this bad boy as he was from Memphis but went to FSU. Any recommendations for something of this or better quality and smaller?

I do not want anything permanent as I will be in Hong Kong for an extended time period. These hippie bastards have screwed up my cooking skills after being away from Arkansas for nine years. We are about to fix that.

iPhone. (No Internet at the new crib until tomorrow)

Weber kettle grill is always a solid option especially if you want to upgrade later(although the Weber will last forever if you take care of it). I have the Weber Performer and love it. Bought a smokenator attachment online and I can smoke/grill just about anything on it.

I've promoted this one a few times here since it's the one I currently own.

I use it to both grill and smoke, and I have not had a single complaint. Outside of cooking, their customer service is by far the best I've ever encountered. If even the smallest thing goes wrong, they ship you out replacement parts at their cost and shipping. And a live person answers the phone, it's not automated.

I love the thing, and it has me thinking about doing a brisket this week.

What do you not like about your purchase?

Do you have a link for dimensions and weight?

I heard the Weber kettle is a good choice for shrimp, chicken and hot dogs keeping those aromas out of the BBQ smokers.

I would prefer a one and done even with that stated. These have great reviews and also a Weber.

I can't compare versus charcoal, but versus a wood chip smoker, I can't tell the difference at all. I change up my wood from maple to oak to apple as needed and of course the go to hickory. I have bags of each of the 4 always ready. Lots of times I mix them all into the hopper. Some people don't like pellet smokers because quite frankly it makes the job too easy. I set the temp then sit down and relax by my pool. The prep work for the food is the most time intensive part of the whole process.

I've never seen a pellet smoker in action before. Makes me hesitant to consider buying one.

I was too, but there's nothing to it really. Load the hopper, set the temp, sit back and relax. The smoker regulates the temp so you never have to worry about it. Some people can't get past that fact and want to keep messing with it. Now, for brisket, I keep a spray bottle with a mixed marinade I keep to lightly mist it a few times while it's smoking.

Never heard of that one, but it looks awesome! Now you have me thinking about getting one. I'd love to smoke on gamedays, but I'm not hauling my Daniel Boone to campus.

Oh I wasn't doubting that it's that easy, that's their main selling point. My skepticism comes from the quality of he smoke it produces from the pellets. I'm glad you like yours. I'll read up more on that model. Do you typically have to reload it during a cook?

I got the Chargriller Kamado Kooker for 250 on sale at Ace. Nice grill with a suprisingly big surface area. Here is an Amazon Link with the reviews.
