I've tried using oil, lard, crisco, with or without baking powder, different rest times, different thicknesses and I still can't manage to get them to what i'm looking for. They're good, but not great. What's your recipe?

Buy the uncooked flour tortillas from the refrigerated section and cook them fresh at home. You're not Mexican.

Buy fresh local ones like Hola Nola at Rouses; they're awesome.

Great suggestion but this cat wants to make his own from scratch.

hAVE you tried the Rick Bayless recipe? He's good at converting mexican food recipes into something whitey can make. LINK

But if you're in Dallas you can throw a rock and hit a place making good tortillas. Just go buy some.

I agree. The ones made fresh at Kroger are better to me.

Thanks. I'll try it. I think my fat/flour ratio has been off.

There's some good mexican food places here, but not much in grapevine. I've been terribly disappointed in breakfast tacos in dallas. I've never had one at the quality as what I had growing up in kerrville or anywhere else around san antonio.

Right, that's how I feel. Kroger has by far the best raw tortillas.

I'll take corn with enchiladas. For tacos i'd rather eat sand.

That's mecca for tacos though. There are damn good taco places here but they are mostly in Oak Cliff or East Dallas.

El Come has great breakfast tacos.
La Victorias has great breakfast burritos.
Taco Deli has surprisingly good breakfast tacos. All the mexicans I know say they do it right.

Tacos Mariachi has incredible seafood tacos. Its my new favorite taco place in Dallas.

Agree on El Come. Every taco I've had there has been magnificent.

I'm not a big dessert guy at all, but their churros with chocolate sauce are killer as well.

I love both, and they both have their place

Corn for fish tacos or street tacos

Flour for fajitas and burritos
