Trying to go somewhere for a birthday for about 10 people this Friday night, looking for ideas. We want something that is not too expensive, would be a plus if they took reservations.

I was thinking of Lava Cantina or Ninfas but was looking for more ideas.

Ninfas

There is no more Ninfas. Get a hibachi table. Maybe Ichiban. Always fun for 10 drunks.

I've never done Hibachi, but I second this. You don't wanna just walk in somewhere with a group of 10 on a Friday night in BR.

For whatever reason, very few restaurants in our city take reservations, and they're pretty much all higher-priced.

How's the food and prices? Do they have bands also?

Roux 61 also gets insanely packed and I do not think they take reservations either so that could be a VERY long wait.

Fantastic food.

Not "cheap", but Ninfas wasn't cheap either when it was around, so I don't think they're really that different in price. Ninfas (and the place that took over it) was like $16-$21 per entree. You can go to dressier/nicer places in BR for that price.

No live bands @ Roux 61.

Rum House is a really fun party type of place, but I am almost positive they don't hold tables and you'll be lucky to not wait at least an hour on a Friday night. That's if y'all can even find parking spots in their horrible lot.

Seriously, I think you should call around and figure out who will reserve some space for y'all. Bistro Byronz has a private room they'll put y'all in if no one is using it and it is not expensive and has good drinks too.

IF you can get the party to the restaurant for 6-6:15 you might be ok. After that you are getting fricked. Roberto's takes reservations and isn't top tier on price.

A few years ago, a friend had her birthday party at Rum House one Saturday night and there had to have been more than a dozen people there at a time. It managed to work out OK. I think we went from the back bar to a table on the patio.

Doe's

Steaks are good, atmosphere is decent, service is good, seemingly never super crowded... the wives always complain thinking it's just a guy's place but always have a good time

Doe's is awesome. Very low key, but nice atmosphere. Steaks are unbelievable

Fwiw tio javi's replaced ninfas. They are using the same staff, menu, and management. Merely changed the signage due to a royalties dispute with the Ninfa's chain

OP talks about two tex mex restaurants and possibly a band.

People are suggesting Gino's and Doe's. Jeez

I think the hibachi suggestion is pretty good. Lava Cantina is loud and a group of drunk people can blend in. Could do bar area of Coyote Blues. La Caretta patio. Rum House.

I have been to a couple of adult birthdays at Lava. That really is his best bet as far as parking, seating, pricing and entertainment. Gino's is literally the opposite on every one of those.

Could not disagree more. I have had terrible experiences there.

But if OP is dead set on tex-mex with a band then thats really your only option.

I'd say forget the band and go to Rum house. Much better food and drinks and the service is head and shoulders above Lava. Food at Caliente isnt incredible but the drink prices are pretty good and they have live music sometimes.

Just go to Rum house then hop over to Olive or Twist for the 11pm happy hour.
