We hate our cooktop(GE profile). Don't have gas in house or we would have a gas stove.

It cooks good and the heat is easy to adjust and control but it is impossible to keep clean. Can't just wipe off with a rag and cleaner (ceramibright?). We have to use some sort of cleaner that you rub on and polish when it dries. PITA.

Anyone got a recommendation for a easier to clean quality cooktop?

How much should I look to spend for something good?

Go with an induction

Price will depend on size. You can get a good 30 or 36 inch one for under 2000 for sure

If you're looking for easy to clean it doesn't get any easier than induction. And you get better control than you get with gas. And while it's more costly than an electric range it will save you energy over the long run, both in the actual use of the thing and in the fact that it won't heat up your kitchen much.

Don't you need special pots for that?

If a magnet sticks to it, it will work

That's the only drawback and some people have pots that are not magnetic.

You can get a decent induction compatible stainless set for cheaper than you think

Cast iron and cast enamel cookware work great on them. Depends on what type of stainless but all the stainless pots I have work on it (even the ones I had previous to owning this)

If a magnet sticks to the pot you're good to go.

Induction cooks by creating a magnetic field that causes the atoms in ferrous metals to align, when the magnetic field is turned off the atoms go back to their original wille-nilly positions.

Doing this very fast creates friction (heat) and is why only the pot gets hot.

Cast iron

We use that or Magnalite. Wouldn't be a big deal to replace the Magnalite. Plenty of cast and enamal cast pot in our kitchen.

Thanks, Ill get a magnet and see what would work.

By the way I probably overestimated with the 2000 number

You can get quality ones for as little as 1200 now for a 30 inch range
