Going to a concert at the 1894 Opera House tomorrow night. Looking for dinner recs for before the show. I haven't been to Galveston in 10 years so I'm all ears. TIA

I've been to the spot a few times and always enjoyed myself.

Rudy and Paco is the "upscale" place there. Supposedly fantastic.

Farley Girls and Mosquito Cafe are the best places I've been but I think they aren't open at night.

Brick House is okay. Has a good PM atmosphere. Decent beer list too.

I hated The Spot for food, but it was fun for overpriced drinks if you are more into atmosphere.

Rudy and Paco's is good and my girlfriend works there, think it's a little overrated though. It's right by the Oprah house.

Shrimp and Stuff just opened a new location downtown and it's nice, just started serving breakfast.

Mosquito Cafe is my favorite lunch spot on the island, they also have half off bottles of wine on Thursdays.

Me and my dad checked out the menu for the spot and I think we're gonna check it out. Don't wanna do anything high end since we've been dressing up all week. Good food, drinks, and Jerry Jeff Walker tomorrow night

Fwiw, cafe Michael Burger is a MUCH better burger on the west end of the island.

Spot is a great atmosphere though.

Other low cost options for you are Millers, Gorditas, l'estacion, Olympia grill, shrimp n stuff, and Sonnys.

All are primarily local joints, though Miller's has gotten a bit touristy lately.

Rudy & Paco is directly across the street from the opera house. I'd absolutely recommend it as the best option on the island.

The Spot does not have table service. You order at a counter like fast food. And in the "restaurant" part (as opposed to the bar) there is only beer and wine. Was a huge PITA when we tried to watch an LSU game there. We couldnt sit in bar since our 16 y/o was with us but I imagine if you are in the bar you have to walk to the restaurant side to order food at the counter. Foo DS was absolutely nothing special.

Your bad experience is due to you going to an upscale bar and grill, expecting a family dining experience. Plan more appropriately next time.

The atmosphere was great. My girlfriend and I had fun going to the bar side for drinks.

But the burger.. It was a hockey puck.

The Spot has the best burger and atmosphere by far.

Atmosphere is good but best burger?

My vote goes to either Jimmy's on the Pier (also one of the best views of the gulf, good taps as well), Chef Michelle Burger or Mosquito Cafe.

I was expecting a Sammys in BR type situation. Bar burgers tv casual food. Waitresses.

I got a burger counter with a condiment bar that served margaritas made with wine.
