I'm gonna be out there for the next few days. Any suggestions on anything good? I'm sure there are chains galore but I was looking for something different.

TIA

I had dinner with some Houston folks a few weekends ago and they were raving about this restaurant called Underbelly.

I have no idea of its proximity to the hospital.

Hope everything goes well. If you are looking for someplace for lunch and need to stay close by, you can walk across the street to the Rotary House, it is a hotel for people staying at MD Anderson. They have a pretty good place to eat called The Oaks, LINK We used to go over when my Dad was doing treatments there.

If you are a beer lover, you aren't far from Gingerman LINK

I haven't been yet but hear great things about this sandwhich place Local Foods

Torchy's Tacos Pretty good tacos, out of Austin

Jollibee Supposedly really good, the Phillipinos love this place

Rice Village is definitely a good spot.

I second Ruggles and Black Walnut.

For lunch I would go to Black Walnut or Ruggles in Rice Village.

Well, I didn't read the others until after I posted this, so you have a concensus. I will also second Benjy's for dinner. Cool place.

I won't be getting treatments right now, just consultations, tests, and 2nd opinions so hopefully I'll be able to make time to at least eat good.

I've heard lots of good things, but never went.

It's not too close to the hospital, but on the general right side of town.

Anything in Rice Village is a good answer. Especially Black Walnut.

Goode Co BBQ is close and pretty decent, Gingerman or Woodrows in the village are good spots to grab a beer as well.

The Goodes Armadillon Palace caught my eye when I was looking around. Cold beer and a venison chili frito pie with onions.

Are you staying in the medical district area?

That area has been my second home the last few years. If you have any questions regarding MD Anderson let me know. Good Luck to you.

I have heard that they have excellent food right there and room service is always open for patients. They have all sorts of treats and condiments, from what I have gathered. I know you are a fan of the condiments.

All the Goode restaurants are quality IMO, Armadillo Palace is more of a bar type place but still has decent grub.

We're staying at a Marriott Residence Inn for this first initial visit. Using my wife's hotel points. I think it is 1.5 miles from the hospital.

the one at Main/Kirby? if so, thats the one we stay at also. If thats the one make sure you let them know you are a MD Anderson patient. They give a discount for room prices.

Sorry, derailing your thread but I will also be there for four days in a few weeks.

I'd also like to add that I haven't been to Houston in about 25 years.
