Staying at Hyatt Regency in Houston next weekend. Any good nearby bars recommended?

Sure.
What's your scene?

Little Woodrow's I guess would be the closest to a Bulldog-ish bar...EaDo or Midtown locations.
Or Flying Saucer.
Downtown bars-Pastry War, Moving Sidewalk, OKRA
If you're younger and looking to rage or just want better scenery...go to Midtown(vom).
Axelrad, Wooster's and Mongoose vs. Cobra are the bars that make me want to kill myself least.
If it were me I'd Uber it to the Upper Kirby/Montrose area or a bar in the Heights/GOOF.....Kirby Ice House, La Grange, Cottonwood, The Hay Merchant are the bars most worth your time if you're an out of towner.

My hotel is considered downtown?

If it's the Hyatt on Louisiana, then yes.

Thank you.
Solid list will screen shot
Will only be their 2 nights, which 2 are my best bets?

If it's a weekend night? I mean any of the bars I listed will have a good weekend crowd.
Most of the bars in Downtown are on Main St...you can walk till you find one that suits you.

Yea, just go bar hop the Main St and Market Square area.
OKRA, Captain Foxhearts, Little Dipper, Honeymoon, Warrens, La Carafe, Public Services, Prohibition, Flying Saucer, Moving Sidewalk, Hearsay. There's so many varying options right there that something will hit the spot for you.
Then after you're done bar hopping, go grab a beer and some drunk food at the Conservatory food hall underneath Prohibition.
ETA - If you're looking to hook up, go to midtown. Downtown is more about drinking. Though Prohibition is usually pretty stacked and they have burlesque shows on the weekends for entertainment.

Thanks a ton.
One other question, driving up Friday morning from Louisiana
When's the best time to get there and avoid infinite traffic cluster frick?

Like any large city...don't show up at rush hour, you'll be fine.
I-10 West into downtown is typically fine during the day except for morning commute hours.

I saw someone knock Woosters Garden, but I'm a huge fan. Great scenery, happy hour is 1/2 price in all cocktails and roughly half their beer and a few wines (about $4.50 a drink from 4-6 I believe)..not sure if Saturday and Sunday applies.
