I'm in the market for a new gas grill.

What brands and styles does the F&D board prefer?

TIA

Stand alone or built-in natural gas?

I am buying myself one this weekend. I have a big hommeade pit that also serves as a smoker, weber charcoal pit, and 2 other charcoal pits at my camp. I've been avoiding gas for a long while, but I just wasted half a bag of charcoal for one steak.

A gas grill would have saved me a lot of time and been much cheaper for my 6 minute steak searing.

It'll be hard lined to a 250 gallon propane tank.

I don't think I want a side pot boiler burner. I had a grill with one before and I never used it. The stove in the house has 6 powerful burners anyway.

Yeah, I'm not against charcoal, but right now I'm gonna go gas first cause of the hard line. I'll look at charcoal or a smoker down the road.

I buy a $100 charbroil and throw it away every 3 years or so. Use it at least once a week and it works fine.

How much do you want to spend?

I have a Weber Summitt that is 8 years old and still as good as new. I think Weber is a great value in grills - especially if you use it a lot and plan to keep it a long time.

I would recommend against buying a cheap throwaway grill. I would also try to stay away from the big Chinese grills that look like a good value - lots of burners, lots of btu's, and seem real heavy.

I like your thinking on the side-burner - I think it shows that you're not enamored with extra bells and whistles. I have one and use it, but I could probably use the gas stove in the house just as easily. One reason I got it is so I can cook outside during a power outage and not heat up the house.

I bought a big stainless from sam's years ago (I think it was members mark). Anyway it was about $700 and had pretty much whatever you wanted. Large infrared burner, rotisserie, side burner, and 3 main burners. I used it all of the time and it was left outside with just a cover on it (I didn't have a porch to protect it). Anyway I loved that thing and never had any problems with it. Only reason I'm not using it now is because I have an alfresco built in to a natural gas line when we built our current home.

I too have several charcoal grills/pits. My gas grill is a Charbroil commercial infrared thing. Hooked up to a natural gas spigot on the back porch. Works great. Especially for coming home in the evening and chunking something on it. 500ish bucks at Lowes.

I've heard good and bad things about the grills from Members Mark. I think my biggest concern about those grills is that Sam's Club outsources the manufacture of those things to companies like Grand Hall and Nexxgrill, and they change every couple of years. This makes finding parts difficult when you have to replace burners, grates, etc...

If I were me, I would stay away from the stainless grll, They are all the rage, obviously, but they are a pain in the butt to keep looking nice.
