For the first time in my life, I realized a truly good bagel needs no add-ons

The cream cheese and jelly and all that jazz is completely unnecessary and even detrimental to a good bagel.

I think I had the best bagel of my life and I have bagel afterglow right now!

Bagels are gross.

Never liked them. There's so many better things you could be eating at breakfast.

Well, someone brought in donuts and bagels, neither of which I normally eat. I usually don't eat breakfast. But presented with them, damn straight I'll eat and enjoy then.

Spoken like someone who never had a good bagel. Montreal bagels fresh from a wood fired oven....heaven. All of the sh!tty wonderbread masquerading as bagels....not worth the calories. The bagel has gone the way of pizza: many awful versions clutter up the US food landscape.

Absolutely. I've never seen a 3 toed unicorn either. And who gives a shite about Montreal bagels when they reside in America? The land of stupid shitty wonderbread bagels...

My buddy took me to some tiny deli in Manhattan a few years ago when I was visiting and made me eat the lox and cream cheese bagel after I insisted that I didn't want one because I'd had them before and they were crap.

It was not crap; I'd just been given crap up until that point. A good bagel is sublime.

I somewhat agree with this, but smoked salmon and cream cheese on a bagel is incredible if done properly.

You do know you can put meat on a bagel?

Or I could use those wasted calories for more meat.

If you have a good one, like they make in New York, they're really good, and if they're fresh and hot.. Fuhgeddabouddit. But even those need cream cheese and a cup of coffee.

The best I've had were on Long Island. Big and Huge. But I like Murray's Bagels in the City, with bagels, lox and a slice of tomato. Frickin Heaven.
