I finally had some Pappy a few weeks ago, and it does not live up to the hype. Is it good? YES Does it live up to the hype? NO
the article you linked listed Glenfiddich 15 which is a great single malt. IMHO there are many single malt scotchs that are better than Pappy for a fraction of the price

the Pappy "hype" is certainly overdone but those bourbons (and 1 scotch) really dont come close.
And ER17 is by far better than any of those and stacks up nicely to PVW expressions. It's just as hard if not harder to get these days.

Holy frick, that writer is a hack! Willet Family Estate is usually very high quality but the Pot Still Reserve she listed is watery garbage. Larceny is putrid in my opinion. I have a Michters 10 but haven't tried it yet. Evan Williams single barrel is just ok. And Glenfiddich is scotch. No comment.
I'll say the Pappy hype is ridiculous but not as ridiculous as that list.

the dude nailed it, but it all plays into this "bourbon boom" Prices are going up, certain labels - even non-premium labels are in demand/short supply, foreign markets are expanding, the secondary market is still crazy (see EHTCO) and craft distillers are still popping up all the time. Premium brands or even wannabe premium brands sell out often without ever seeing a shelf.

Man, I remember back around 2005,local liquor stores couldn't sell PVW or ORVW. It sat and collected dust. That was a time when I drank it and all the BTAC (Stagg, ER17 and WLW) with reckless abandon. Fast forward 10yrs...I got put on a list to maybe get a chance at ORVW 10yr. The higher end stuff is always already accounted for. Hell, even Weller and Weller Antique is snatched up and is never on shelves any more.
Switched to Redbreast and Greenspot Irish Whiskies to get my fix of high end. It's only a matter of time and they'll be gone from shelves too.
