Any foods to look out for? Or is it basically "eat everything I can get my hands on?"

Friday night is usually pretty damn packed. If you go early Saturday or Sunday the crowds and lines will not be bad.

Eat everything you can the traditional meal in the gym is always great.

Very fun and underrated festival imo. I really enjoy Greek food and had a great time last year. The weather was nice, lots of canoes and paddleboarders leisurely going along Bayou St. John, authentic Greek music and food. It's family friendly and just a relaxing event.
Munch on some Calamari and feta fries to start. Relax and enjoy an ouzo, beer or glass of wine.
For the next go around, I'd highly suggest splurging for the rotisserie Spring lamb. It's sold by the pound, so it's more expensive but worth it.
You'll be stuffed after that, but try and fit some loukoumades with honey and cinnamon or baklava in.

I love Greek pastries. I love anything with filo and honey, and can eat my weight in baklava.
Spanokipita is good if you like spinach.
As a kid I remember a side dish similar to macaroni and cheese that they served at the Memphis Greek Festival. I'm not sure what it was- can anyone help me out??

It's usually bloody hot, so go early. The gym has AC, so you can opt for the plate lunch and eat it inside. My favorite part is, of course, the cookie line. You go down a long line of homebaked greek goodies and choose as many as you'd like of each, and pay at the end. Mamoul cookies are wonderful....
Spit roasted lamb, grilled octopus, and the silly good baklava ice cream sundae. But did I mention the heat? Wear cool clothes.

I will ram as many gyros down my throat as I can.

Here's a treasured pic I took a few years ago of Leni's owner Pete Patselikos -- he's also apparently head lamb roaster at the fest. Trust me: get the lamb.

I normally go out there later in day around 7pm when the sun is coming down
