My first trip to Baton Rouge this weekend. I have heard a lot about the restaurant Boutin's. Any places better than that place that I need to check out?

Avoid Boutin's like the plague.

What type/cost dining experience are you looking for?

Whoever told you Boutin's has a shitty sense of humor. What kind of food are you wanting to eat?? Seafood?? Upscale, casual, in between?? Give us something to work with here buddy.

It's three friends and I, all of us are in college. Definitely looking for seafood and a good atmosphere. Entree 15-20 dollars I guess. Thanks a lot!

The Chimes on Highland is a solid spot with a good bar and good menu. A good shrimp poboy from George's on Perkins never hurt nobody. Chelsea's is in that area as well. For something a little more upscale try Parrain's or Louisiana Lagniappe. Go to Bogie's to chase tail if you're FAF.

All of these places will be packed this weekend. Some on here will recommend Sammy's but I hate the place.

Follow Trout Bandit's suggestions. Boutins and Sammy's both suck, IMO.

Clearly you are not a cardiologist
George's is good though.

Definitely go to Chimes!

Yeah, y'all won't fit in with the geriatric crowd at Boutins.

Same goes for spots like Mike Anderson's and Ralph and Kacoos. Avoid Avoid Avoid.

when I have friends in town from out of state, I have never had one tell me anything negative about Sammys or Chimes or even Parrains

I eat at Chimes frequently. I think it is a great place to bring people from out of state. They have local/ Louisiana food items on the menu that they execute reasonably well at a decent price point. Sammy's is pretty much the same idea. Never tried Parrains but I've heard good things.

Well Parrains is the best out of those three IMO, so I'm saddened by your need to say "even Parrains",
But yeah, Parrains is great seafood and close enough to campus for OP if that's what he's coming in for.

I actually never go to Sammy's as I think their fried food all tastes the same, but I'm surprised to see so many people saying not to go. I imagine an out of towner would be perfectly happy at Sammy's. I certainly have no problem ordering it to-go in a pinch. (It's very close to home)

Chimes is another option.

Friday night, you're going to wait at any of the three. Saturday lunch you'll be okay at Parrains and Sammys. I assume you're not doing Saturday night.
Sunday morning at all 3 will have a wait.
