Finger Sandwiches ... a Louisiana thing?

Never realized this until i moved to Atlanta. Had a birthday party for the boys, and made a basic finger sandwich tray ... ham, turkey, roast beef. Friends of mine from New Orleans came up to me with a look of excitement on their faces ... "you made these, didn't you?"
I thought it was because my work was substandard and these didn't pass for some that would've from a grocery deli or catering spot. That wasn't the case, however. They knew that i had made them because they can't get them here in Atlanta. I didn't know, because i hadn't even tried to buy them. I just broke out the electric knife and went and got some bread, blue plate, and thinly sliced meats.
That does explain, however, why the lady in the deli looked at me crazy when i told her i needed them sliced as thin as possible while still holding together as a slice. I told her "i'm using it to make finger sandwiches" ... she looked at me like i was speaking Chinese.
Now i'm expected to bring finger sandwiches to any get together.
I always remember being able to get them in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Is anybody on here able to get them outside of Southeast Louisiana?

Thats really interesting. I don't go to many parties out of state, so I have never noticed or considered it.

Made famous by Huey Long.
He would also eat them off of other people's plates.

The Neiman Marcus cookbook has some excellent finger sandwich recipes. My favorite is turkey and swiss cheese with chutney on one slice of bread and sriracha mayo on the other. Excellent.

Dunno about the geographic distribution of squishy white bread & mayo/cold cut finger sandwiches, but I just wanted to add this: at LA parties (whether festive or funereal) those little f'ers disappear first, no matter what sort of incredible other food is being offered. I don't get it, personally. But the average Joe is gonna eat six or eight of those damn things before he even looks at the rest of the food.

It's a known entity. You won't be thrilled, and you won't be disappointed.
Long used to stuff his face with them, and had them on the table for most meals.

Small pimento cheese sandwiches were fairly common at parties/tailgates I would attend in ATL.
The baked ham n cheese slider also really took off once pinterest became a thing, LINK
Some variation of those has been at almost every tailgate I have been at the last two years.
Apart from these 2 sandwiches, I cant really say I remember eating many finger sandwiches.

A classic move is smashing a ham, roast beef, and turkey together into one mega mini club.
This has to be done when nobody is looking.

I live in TN now and been to multiple showers parties etc and have never seen a tray of finger sandwiches. The exception is my sister in law does a chicken salad sandwich but its not on white bread with crust removed. I love going to Dorignacs on my way back to TN and getting a 6 pack of lil triangles for my lunch on the road.

I live in Tennessee as well and most showers and parties have always had them. Everyone refers to them as tea sandwiches though.
ETA: Our office just had a Thanksgiving party with one set consisting of ham. brie and apple and the other turkey, cranberry, sprouts and a touch of cream cheese. They were delicious.

Yeah, if you Google Image search "finger sandwiches", the normal crustless things show up. They even suggest you add "Bridal Shower" to the search.
If this was just a LA thing, seems odd it would be all over Google with links to different sites.

We have them up here in Kentucky all of the time. Baby showers, Derby parties, etc. Our niche finger sandwich is one with Benedictine spread.

Cucumber sandwiches are very popular in England. Crusts removed and bread sliced in quarters.
One side of the bread is mayo, the other side is butter. Cucumber in the middle.

It's pretty funny how you can eat so many finger sandwiches, but I don't regularly eat like 5 non-finger sandwiches.

I'm craving Calvin's chicken salad right now.
