Never been in Lafayette overnight but will be Saturday. I need a semi nice dress up (think Ruth's Chris type nice, not Commander's) to take someone to dinner. Open to type of food.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I use Yelp when out of state but figured I would tap the collective knowledge of the FDB instead.

Is Lafayette a big Saturday Night Out town? Do I need to get reservations or can I likely walk in most places?

Ruffinos and Jolie's use reservations. Possibly Charlie Gs. Others will probably have a short wait

We don't have anything that rivals a commander's but then again not many places do.
Mazen
Charlie Gs
Ruth's Chris
Jolie
Blue Dog
Tsunami
Pamplona is fun, but I would still put it in this catagory
Antoni's is a hidden gem, but I wouldn't put it in the catagory with the others as being a premier Lafayette establishment.
Yes, get reservations or you will wait

ETA: Cafe Vermillion and Ruffinos are legit as well

I would 2nd Ruffino's for great atmosphere and Marcello's for awesome food with a bit more intimate setting.

If you're thinking Imonelli, go to Marcello's instead. You won't regret it.
