Dumb dry rub question

Sorry for the silly question but how soon before cooking should I put the dry rub on?

Thanks.

I do mine the night before and let it sit in fridge overnight.

Overnight, and if you can vacuum seal the meat, it even better

Overnight is definitely preferred.I am sitting here now waiting for the smoke to get rolling so I can put a pork shoulder on.I hope to have it done by suppertime.Ahhhhh....the things we do for good BBQ.
