I liked all of his standalone shows. Some of the other stuff, like commentary on Iron Chef, and judging on Next Food Network Star, is ok at times and annoying at others. Maybe it is the fact he's actually lived in the South and cooks similarly to how I do, but I've always appreciated his shows. I learn things, I laugh at times. And I have incorporated some of the little mundane tips he gives in everyday cooking. I know it is pretty basic, but one time he showed a quick way to dice an onion only using a few cuts, and I still dice them that way every time I do it. My wife will start chopping and cutting, and it turns into a huge mess. I take the other half of the onion and in a fraction of the time have uniform sized pieces of onion without the mess.
I'm also a big fan of his thinking that any tool/utensil should have more than one use. Like I said, the little things I have picked up on and use more than just recipes.

Alton also comes across as a bit of an arse in some of his other roles like host of Next bullshite Star and such. I know it is a role, and he is probably a good dude, but they play him so smarmy that I get annoyed with him.
^This. I like him in Good Eats, though. Anyone catch his cameo in The Layover with Bourdain in Atlanta at the Clermont? Alton was visibly uncomfortable with the surroundings and Bourdain was eating it up.

I liked watching him when he did the Good Eats coking series. When my wife worked for Viking out of Greenwood, MS; said that he is a total a-hole and a douche bag to deal with

I'm a big fan of Good Eats. It can be hokey, but it usually has some good "why/how you do this" information.

I like the guy. If you pay attention you can learn a lot from him (or I have).
I am really jealous of his grocery store. 157,428,791 X better than the Piggly Wiggly in Meridian ever was. The wife went there on one of her Atlanta trips and got in trouble taking photos in the store, or at least they told her "No photos, please".
I miss his Good Eats shows and the old Emerald shows (pre Bam! shouts)

You are the F&DB version of Alton Brown.
I have one of his books, signed, from when he came to New Orleans last time.
Nice guy.

I want to make certain everyone knows I have lots more hair than he does.
I hope he has more money than me. One should always wish the best for their fellow man.
The wife's Atlanta friend shops at that grocery store he featured in his shows. When she goes over there I always tell her to say hello to Alton and she never sees him buying produce when they go there to shop.

He must have a better connection.
The butcher and fish monger have great jobs.
Do you remember the lady, dark hair/a little heavy, professor he would bring on from time to time and walk through the store with?
They'd talk about different applications of heat for whatever protein he would have that day usually. I always liked her.

Never been a big fan. Always thought he was good at promoting himself more than anything else and he can be a bit hockie. Feasting on Asphalt was pretty good but I don't watch all the other game shows or reality shows or whatever you call all those the Food Network has on these days. He's like a notch above Ted Allen and a notch below Pat Sajak.

"Good Eats" is the greatest cooking show of all time.
