Distilling and Aging Bourbon - Recs needed

I am building a distiller and can order the white oak barrels already charred.
I need good books for recipes, process, ideas to get a good bourbon product.
Has anyone done this successfully? I have made wine and beer... I like making wine more.
I'd like to end up with maybe 2-3 1.5 gallon barrels aging... maybe with different recipes to see what works best.
There is lots of information online, but most of the books I've found dont really get into the details for distilling multiple batches at a time.
Thoughts?

Experiment with the white liquor a great while before moving on to aging.

It is.
But... you can distill "perfume" all you want. Or distill "water" for brewing purposes.

So basically Ill just need to hid everything that im going to do...
Back to my previous questions...
Any good books.
Also, one of you mentioned just buying white alcohol and experimenting with that. Do you mean adding flavors and barrel aging that?

No, experiment with the fermentation and basic distilling of "white" whiskey before worrying about aging.
If the base wash isn't any good, no amount of aging will help.

no flavors added to bourbon boss....
pretty much all the distilleries put out a "white dog" product now. No reason you cant take that and age it just to see how the aging in small barrels will work.

Have you done it?

Ill definitely do this, before buying the barrels. They are ridiculously expensive

Yes, with a buddy who has a still... our first attempt was absolutely disgusting. Just foul... we attempted to distill it thinking we might separate some of the off-flavors, but all it did was concentrate the nastiness.

Louisiana's got nothing to do with it. It's federal, and it's mainly a tax thing. Taxman gots to get his.

Did you finally distill one that taste good? What did you do?
Book/website recommendations?

Hypothetically yes. If one was to produce a quality distilled product, you have to pay attention to the mash and how that ferments and get a quality alcoholic product before putting it through the still. Sanitation is an important part of the process. Once again, all hypothetical
I hear the books from down under are of good quality since it is legal there.
